What music player are you using and why?

I was wondering what the people on the internet are using to listen music to on their desktops...

For a long time, I used Winamp, but that became an infested pile of donkey poop, so on my new machine I stuck with Windows Media Player, hoping it'd grow on me, but it didn't...

So, what and why?

Up until my laptop broke, I was using iTunes.

I've pretty much always used iTunes, apart from when I was 12 or 13 and I used to put all of my CDs on Windows Media Player.

I made mixed CDs for my Walkman with it too. Ye olde playlists.

Edit: Reason for using iTunes: I like iPods.

I use iTunes, mostly because I have an ipod, and if you don't update it, it's actually manageable. =P

Plus I'm just too used to the layout now. I do have Windows Media Player as a backup.

I use iTunes, pretty much for the same reason as sky14kemea - because I have an iPod and it works perfectly with it.

I have used WinAmp before as well, before I got an iPod but it's not really that good a music player in my opinion. I mean, there were songs I'd import and it wouldn't recognise and it crashed regularly. iTunes is pretty much the only reliable music player I've used for any length of time.

I'm currently using Windows Media player because it doesn't suck too much and I'm too lazy to switch to anything else. However, I might end up switching in the near future, because I do have a few problems with Windows Media player that might not be problems with other media players.

Windows Media Player. Seriously, research equalizer configurations and groove on. @.@

And on my phone(Android by the by), PowerAMP Music Player. It's awesome and has an amazing set of equalizers. It looks good, plays good and is cheap on the market. :D

I on the other hand consider iTunes to be one of the most unreliable players out there, my sister has an iPod and iTunes has been nothing but trouble, with the way it organizes the library and enforces the sync, the way it won't play FLAC...

Can't say I've ever found a problem with the way it organises the library, and the fact that the sync is automatic is fine because I really only connect my iPod to sync, not to charge or anything. I guess I can see why it would be an issue though.

I had noticed the lack of FLAC capability, but seeing as every CD that goes in is ripped into .mp3, I've never found that to be a problem.

Since I'm primarily a Linux user I use Banshee Media Player as it allows me to play ogg and flac files, while at the same time still being able manage my ipod without having to use the bloated mess that is iTunes. Plus banshee doesn't brick my iPod after requesting I install an update for the iPod like iTunes has done on more than one occasion. God I hate iTunes.

I mostly use WMP unless it's being a resource hog then I'll switch to VLC or media player classic if I need to. I don't really care so I just use what I have on my computer, I don't notice a big difference between them.

Foobar on Windows, as it's tiny and immensely configurable. I moved to that from Winamp as it was getting bloated with stuff I never used and started not playing nicely with my hotkeys.
Foobar takes a bit of fiddling to set up as it basically gives you a canvas and a "build it yourself" interface, but that does mean in the end you get exactly what you want.

Banshee on Mint, not played with a lot of alternatives but remember not liking Rhythmbox. Again, I like being able to turn off all the stuff I don't use and it seems to be nice and quick.

I do prefer Amarok as I like the drag interface and it just makes sense after I fiddled with it all, also a few of the fancy features were nice.

Not liked iTunes on Windows as it never played nice with large music libraries and was immensely slow compared to alternatives.

Well, I really don't see any reason why I should switch from Windows Media player. It's a good program. And it doesn't bother me with constant updates (looking at you Itunes).

I've always used itunes because I used an ipod, and now that I don't, I don't see a reason to change.

Winamp on Windows. I just don't update it. I haven't for the past two years or something, maybe more. I refuse to use Windows Media Player.

Audacious on Linux. Simple enough. And looks like Winamp. I tried Banshee but it tried to be my music library rather than just a player and I don't like that. Rhytmbox just wasn't to my taste. I used Amarock for a while and really liked it, but it has some bugs on Gnome - nothing big, but it randomly pauses after an MP3 stops playing sometimes. It's not really frequent either, maybe 1-2 times a day 3-4 times a week but it annoyed me enough to move away.

I use itunes, just because I always have I suppose. I've always had a mac as my computer (no moaning, my family's first computer was a mac and I've just never switched out of habit) so have just always used itunes since it appeared.

I use spotify too, but just for music I don't actually have on my itunes.

windows media player, itunes, and to a much great extend youtube.

If I want to play the music I own, I put the CD in my CD player.

I use iTunes and Youtube. I guess I just like having the freedom of being able to listen to anything with Youtube. I can search a song up and bam, I can listen to it.

I actually don't have any music stored on my computer. I used to, but it takes up a fair amount of hard drive space, and the thing is so jammed up with installed games that I'd rather not waste space on music. Instead, I use my phone when I want to listen with headphones, and use my homebrew enabled Wii when I want to run something through the stereo. I use WiiMC on the Wii because it's really the best media player for it -- there's others, but they're all old, abandoned projects. On my phone I use the default Android media player because it works and the phone has some built in headphone surround modes that are only convenient to access with the default player.

I use Windows Media Player, because I'm used to it, it's compatible with Last.fm and I'm stupid.
I seriously need to find something better. A pile of tampons would make a more stable music player than WMP. But then, I'm lazy.
