What sad thing should I do next?

I have never cried while watching a movie, playing a game, or anything of the sort. I would like to change that. In the last few years, I have watched most of what people called the saddest things, but I have yet to break down...

Granted, that is not to say that nothing has brought me close. Anohana nearly got me, as did certain paths in Katawa Shoujo. I was wondering if there would be anything truly heart rending enough to make a cynical ass from the internet like myself break down and blubber like a little baby.

Well, the Walking Dead game would probably be a good start. All of those feels. All of them, I say!

Snow Angels is also a movie I'd recommend. Makes me tear up each time I watch it.

These are two pretty cliche answers, but Green Mile and Titanic are two very sad films. People give Titanic a very hard time, but it's actually pretty heartbreaking if I'm honest. I hadn't seen it for years but watched it again recently and I don't think it deserves the negativity it gets.

Grave of the Fireflies. It's a film about a brother and sister trying to survive in war-torn Japan.
Empire of the Sun also has some sad moments, a particularly memorable one being the scene at the end.

I've heard many times that My Sister's Keeper is supposed to be an enormously sad film. My mum said she wanted to watch a really sad film, so I suggested it from what others had said about it. Now my mum isn't someone who would usually cry at films, but she said she was sobbing from start to finish. As I said I've never actually seen it, but it has something of a reputation in my mind for being one of the saddest films since everyone who watches it cries.

Isn't there a whole sub-genre of manga devoted to this sort of thing? I'm sure one of the more well informed escapees could name it.

I just remember coming across this story about a puppy... that got abandoned... then it got mistreated and maimed... then it was found by a nice old lady... who died of cancer... Well, you get the idea. It didn't make me cry but if you have a soft spot for puppies it might do the trick.

Actually I'm not sure if the intent of the genre is to inspire tears or massive depression. Knowing Japan it could be either.

I used to be like that . I would never shed a tear from anything sad . I'm 24 now and never shed a tear in my adult life . Up until october 2012 . I played a game . And that game , made me cry . Not just tear up , not just get misty eyed , not just shed 1 tear . I cried . I cried like a ***** . Tears , snot , whimpering . I had to get up and get tissues because the tears would not stop flowing . This was the first time in my adult life i cried , and the first time any kind of entertainment media ( in this case videogames ) made me cry .

The game was xenosaga episode 3 . Now it was the first time playing take game . I had played 1 and 2 years back ( it's a series where the stories follow each other in chapters ) and i have gotten the last game in the series ( episode 3) in may . So i sat down and played all three games back to back . And upon reachig the ending of the 3rd game , i completly broke down . Having played the whole series , i grew attached to the characters , their personalities . The ending of that game was magnificent , and was worth every tear i shed .

The saddest film I've seen, and I've seen many, is the third Lord of the Rings.
I know this is kinda cheesey on a site like this with gamers, but the ending when they all leave broke my little heart when I first read the book, and also when I watched the film it was an emotional moment.
The saddest album I feel is These Days by Bon Jovi, especially the title track
The saddest game in my opinion is Fallout 3, the end slideshow where it sums you up as a person had me in tears and I don't even cry about REAL things.
But these are just about the only times I have felt emotion about anything... enjoy :p

I know The Walking Dead got me all sad, Skyfall kinda got to me, and definitely Sword Art Online sent me on an emotional rollercoaster. I've never cared as much for a plot and cast more than the one in Sword Art Online, nor have I ever been so glad that a perverted psychopath got decapitated.

Really? Good grief how?! Only one good guy dies and he's hardly in the film. Another good guy dies, true, but he's a jerk.

OT: Ehm... My Lunch from Scrubs season 5... *shrug*

Anime-wise (since Grave of the Fireflies has already been mentioned): Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, though you may find the younger brother's voice a bit annoying. There's also Haibane Renmei, notably the last episode...

Oh, and more recently? Anne Hathaway as Fantine... eeesh that was difficult viewing...

Toy Story 3 has made me cry all 4 times I've watched it.
Grave of The Fireflies has also made me cry twice.
Titanic made me cry the first time aswell (I also don't think it deserves the stick it gets although everything that isn't a flashback is stupid)
Mass Effect 3 almost made me cry several times... Both were almost tears of manly sadness from all the feels during the game and also manly tears of rage at the ending.
Also The Walking Dead game made me cry manly tears too.

There are more but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

First thing that comes to mind is Clannad: After story, but for it to be more impactful, you would have to watch Clannad first as well.

Heavy Rain

It's the epitome of soul-crushing depression mixed with suicidal tendencies

Every corner, there's more rain...

That should get the misters in your eyes working

Bastion, but if you haven't cried before I don't think it will work. Letters from Iwo Jima and Bridge River Kwai (both excellent films in their own right) kind of make you feel shell-shocked at the end. You sit there staring at the TV thinking about what happened and what will happen to the characters. Neither will make you cry. I haven't seen it but Les miserables is supposed to be tear inducing, but I can't really vouch for it

Scrubs.

Season 3, Episode 14: "My Screw Up".

Like the OP, I don't cry at sad things but the first time I saw that well...it got a quiver or ten.

Tried Seven Pounds? That damn movie does everything it can to tug at your heart strings, unless I was overly emotional the time I watched it. Every time I was able to quit crying something else happened that made me start again... and I'm really not the crying kind of guy.

Hotel Rwanda does a good job.

I saw a short video of a man saying goodbye to his dog as it was put to sleep. One of the only things that has ever made me cry. Can't seem to find the video, though.

When you're cynical you're often moved to tears but the opposite of what other people will find sad. I saw it in an acting class once. This one girl just could not cry. Everyone was picturing loved ones dying and crying away, but it didn't work for this girl. The instructor told her not to worry, that he was there for her, she could trust him, he would not leave her and never betray her. She burst into tears. I'm not saying that's what will work for you, I'm just saying look for things outside of what other people are going to tell you are sad.

I hadn't cried for the longest time after my father died. Then one night my girlfriend told me how bad she felt for me that day watching me at the funeral trying to talk about him. And I cried again for the first time in 4 years.

But if you're looking for recommendations I'll suggest - The Elephant Man and The Straight Story. Both David Lynch. And he's not a normal guy. So if you're not either, you might be able to relate.
