Dear escapist's here the scene:A man has been sent to jail for 25 years,10 years later it has been found out that he was framed and is innocent. What compensation should this man get from the government. Please be as detailed as possible.

This has been another great post by Knight steel.

Well in the past when that's happened said man sues the arresting agency and then gets a settlement for a great deal of money. All at the taxpayers cost. Also, jail is where you await trial or serve sentences less than two years. Prison is where you go after long sentencing.

either the amount of money he could've earned in that time if he hadn't been in jail (based off his current or last prior job)
Or the time he had spent in prison reduced from any future sentences, to which i would suggest crotch punching police. Simple revenge, and i think it was in a film once...

This has been another wonderful reply from the joyous Sion Barzahd.

Unfortunatly, the legal system is bastard when it comes to admitting fault. In English law, he would have to sue under civil law for any kind of monetary comeback.

He's given a gun with a full clip and he's allowed to kill anyone he likes with the original bullets from that clip.

I think you should be paid to make up for the amount of money not earned while in prison, but I'm not sure any amount of money can make up for losing 10 years of your life. Time can't ever be bought back.
Maybe thats the answer then, 10 years wages, split up in monthly payments so the guy gets paid for not having to go to work, so he has 10 years to enjoy himself before he has to work again. Or, he can work and double his wages...

The people responsible for putting him there should have to pay him everything they own.
I would add one detail: Those who were knowingly or negligently responsible. If the jury did their job perfectly they are at least existentially responsible but should not be punished. Those who knew what they were up to framing this guy, and those who didn't do their jobs in the justice legal system, well......

Money can't buy years back, but it's the closest way. At least $100000 per year that they are in jail.

That's about it. If 10 years of your life are lost to false accusation, there's nothing that can truly redeem that - but if corrupt douchebags who knowingly framed him have to give all their money to him, then he can at least have some fun with said money.

Yep. I'd go along with this. I wouldn't hold juries responsible, but the prosecutors and police involved in willful miscarriages of justice should face serious criminal prosecution as well as having to give everything they own to the people they have wronged.

Nothing lower than a bent copper.

He gets to use his time spent in jail on other crimes. Example he gets 10 years in jail, found innocent, so he gets to commite crimes that add up to 10 years.

it SHOULD be that a government worker takes the evidence that proved him innocent back in time and change the outcome of the trial so he's never convicted in the first place for a start
