So, I was playing Killer is Dead, and the music from the 8th mission has this repeating melody that I think is from a piece of classical music. It appears for the first time at 48 seconds in this video.

I love the soundtrack to this game (Akira Yamaoka is one of my Pandora stations), but I've somehow gotten fixated on that one bit from the song and it's driving me nuts that I can hear the piece of music it's originally from in my head but I can't find it anywhere because I don't know the name. Please help if you can, before I give myself an aneurysm.

Probably one of the most famous moments in any symphony ever, the fourth movement of Antonin Dvořák's Ninth Symphony.

It annoys me that his ninth symphony is often considered his magnum opus, because I think he's composed a lot better pieces.

Well, some Beethoven movements and a few Mozart movements are probably more popular, but whatever.

Oh goodie! A classical music thread.

There are even those who don't think that the ninth is even his best symphony. The eighth being the other main choice. In fairness the Cello Concerto is only slightly less famous, being the one that all famous Cellists have to have a go at (along with Elgar's)

As is the case with so many composers, I think his Requiem is his greatest piece. Eg the Dies Irae:

I like his cello concerto specifically because it has melodies and memorable phrases that aren't solely in the solo instrument. (Much like the horns and clarinets in the first movement of Shostakovich's Cello Concerto, or the oboes in Mozart's third violin concerto.) The trumpets and trombones in his cello concerto are about half of the performance, compared to other forgettable concertos where the orchestra just... makes noise. A really good concerto has a lot of melody and harmony trading between the solo instrument and the orchestra, and Dvořák got that right.
