What the hell are these things?

I was wondering if anyone knew what the name of these insects are, they look almost like a cross between a hornet and a wasp except they're brownish and they're like all over my back deck, anyone know what I'm talking about? I saw one up close, kind of a brown/red color and maybe white strips on it's ass, about two stripes. I just wanna know if it's bad to piss them off cause I want to kill them.

Looks like a Spider wasp. Don't do anything that could remotely be considered threatening and you'll be fine.

Eating, breathing, sleeping and mating of course lie in this category.

Oh urinating is a definate no-no.

Not quite, their ass is longer and maybe thinner, and they're brown, no yellow on them, brown wings too, same shape of head though
