So when I was growing up, I loved Xena Warrior Princess (let he who is without geekdom cast the first stone). She was sexy and funny and cool and kicked butt. I'd do my best to catch her whenever the show was on and would watch reruns over and over.

As I grew older, I got to see it less and less for various reasons. Well recently I found Xena on netflix (all the seasons if i'm not mistaken). So I was like "hell yeah! I finally get to know what happened when all those visions of Xena and Gabriel dying and all that" (please don't spoil it for me if you do know).

Well I started watching and...I realized how my youth blinded me to how bad it could be. Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to try and watch it all the way through and it's still an awesome concept if not executed badly at times, but my love...has faded. It's not as good as it once was and not nearly as magical and entertaining as it was.

So...what has age or whatever else taken from you? What music, tv show, book, comic, anime etc. etc. do you miss, but just can't muster the same love to save your life?

Top Cat!

When I was growing up...I loved this show! I lived by it! It was like my own personal Jesus Christ. In suave cat form.

But now...god, it's nowhere NEAR being good. The visuals, while interesting, look kinda cheap. The supporting cast are all idiots with irritating voices. Even TC himself, to my adult-ish self, comes across as just...well, he's kind of a ****.

The only thing that remains good: the theme song. Oh fuck yeah, that's stayed superb.

I try to look at nostalgic things from different perspectives then to decry them as bad.

For example, remember Sam Raimi's Hercules series? I loved it as a kid, but watching it now, its very campy and badly acted.

BUT, it has Bruce Campbell appearances, which make my criticisms less valid by merit of how awesome he is.

Pretty much any kid's anime. Mainly Yu-Gi-Oh.

I mean really, I actually liked that?! Wow.

Its given me good things and bad. I no longer seem to enjoy many of the old kids shows I used to watch (Except spongebob because it is just that genius), but it has also stopped me from liking many of my old original xbox games. Why? I realized how bad, even for their day, that they really were.

Transformers Beast Wars and Reboot
Man those shows looked cool and new back in the day, now those horrible ITT Tech commercials look better. The characters and story really haven't aged well either. Except for Dinobot, Dinobot is god.

Dragonball Z
Oh god Dragonball Z, I can't help but compare you to better shonen anime. Vegeta is still cool, but his baddass levels really go downhill once he becomes a good guy. And I hate Goku and Gohan.

Digimon Seasons 1&2
Like Dragonball Z I can't help but compare them to better anime, namely the 3rd season, which I consider one of my favorite anime ever. Also, the crappy puns and jokes really detract from the characters and dramatic tension. I also didn't realize it at the time, but the shows had a budget of about $200 an episode.

Ed,Ed, and Eddy is the exact opposite of that. Found all seasons and I am in love. Now mine would have to be Naruto. I liked the anime when I was like 7 but I watched one off line and I just though.... "what is this?"

Beast Wars was actually my first true encounter with transformers. Imagine my confusion when they suddenly turned back into cars.

In my memory the graphics were amazing!...now I look at pics online and I can't even recognize it.

Inspector Gadget & The Neverending Story.

EDIT: Legend, too. Now I can't stop thinking about the couch-jumping & alien worship.

Was my first experiance with Transformers too, that was a sad day when I realized Megatron wasn't a dinosaur in every iteration.

Reboot was the best thing ever in its day. I don't want to watch it again, as I fear, as you say, it'll just be awful.

Transformers was always bad, the only saving grace being the swearing in the movie and Grimlock (king).

Agreed. Shame that it's gone, it was the last original Cartoon Network show from the 90s.

For me, I use to love Thomas the Tank Engine. Now, I still do in a way, but I'm irked by how all dialogue is narrated by some guy offscreen while the characters don't even move their mouths. I know it's Ringo Starr narrating and it was only when I grew up that I knew who Ringo Starr is, but still.

Splinter Cell. After Chaos Theory improved on every single thing in that game, what's the point of going back? I can't play through it again, even though I just got it off Steam.

Artemis Fowl. My god... The writing is for little kids. I wish I had read the last book before noticing this, because now that might never happen.

I still think Spongebob Squarepants is hilarious, though. And Pingu. Plus, my childhood consisted mostly of Lego, and Lego is never out of style.

Pretty much the entirety of Winnie the Pooh.

Every character in that show that I loved as a kid turned out to be a humongous douche-bag under reexamination. Pooh? He just fucking eats all of Rabbit's food. And when he's not doing that, he's thinking of ways to steal honey from other people, or causing property damage in the form of him getting his fat ass stuck in door frames. Tigger's just a fuckwad, spending the majority of his time trashing Rabbit's garden and other assorted shit.

When I was a kid, I saw Rabbit as the stuffed up killjoy. Now I know the truth... Rabbit was the only sane character in the entirety of the Hundred-Acre Wood. Well, him and Kanga.

He just wanted to be left alone, man...

Mind = Blown, cannot be unseen, etc.

What!? Blasphemy! How dare you speak poorly of Beast Wars

Except for Dinobot, Dinobot is god.
Well then... nevermind. Carry on.

OT: Only think specific I can think of is 7th Saga on SNES. Thought it was awesome if hard way back when I was pretty young and I never beat it. Tried to play it again on an emulator and I found it cool, but just too tedious to finish.

Good lord help you if you watch the new Thomas then. The old ones with Narrations by Ringo Starr and George Carlin were the best.

The new Thomas? HE IS FUCKING CGI. Forget the incredibly detailed model train sets with working smoke and water, hes a fucking cartoon with movable lips. It looks awful.

They did the same damn thing to Garfield. -_- He used to be witty and sarcastic and now he's just...a CGI kid's cartoon. *sigh* All well, there's always the funny pages.

I say we start a petition for the revival of Ed, Edd, n Eddy. That show ended before it's time.

Pingu.
They ruined it. Sucked all the charm out of it by making it CGI.
And Captain Scarlet, I mean what the fuck?
