Most recently?

Penumbra Overture, never before have I been so afraid of an encounter with a wolf in a game. People weren't lying when they said that game had atmosphere.

Probably Resident Evil 4.
First off, whenever you shoot the heads off of the zombies, they turn into fucked up octopuses.
Second, you are always scrounging for ammo, making everything fucking tense.
Third, there is a guy that chases you, who only uses a chainsaw, and wears a sack for a hat. That's just somewhat fucked up.
Although, I don't play many horror games.

Any game in the Penumbra or Fatal Frame series.
Silent Hill has some good ones, but not all of it's games are great.
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines was extremely scary and atmospheric but gameplay wise isn't that good.
And Condemned 1 & 2.

The one game that sort of scared me, but also put me in the perfect zone of 'dreading the next encounter' and 'wondering if I could make it through another door without dying' was the remake of resident evil 1 on the gamecube.

If you really want a game where killing zombies is not only frowned upon it's almost suicidal, this one was perfect. Kill a zombie, about 6 bullets (not easy to come by), then after a short amount of time he JUMPS BACK UP and can run and deal about 2x as much damage as before. This time it takes around 12 bullets to kill. Well FUCK ME THIS SUCKS.

Generally speaking I don't scare in a recreational environment. That said, I guess a few maps of the human campaign in AvP (Not the most recent one, the one before that...I think. Like I kept track of all the variations of games with the same freaking name) probably had me on edge the most. Either that or when I first started playing L4D before I knew how to defend against the various specials effectively.

Similar situation here. Despite coming up prominently on the radar those damn Yao-Guai of Fallout 3 always manage to get the jump on me.

There's just something about bears that makes them frightening. Dunno quite what it would be for me. I'm just going to go with Unreal.

System Shock 2.

Hey, I hate zombies, and the creepy spaceship+'This is Xerxes'+ very little ammo added to that...

Yeah, almost pissed my pants, which is more than I can say for many other supposedly scary games.

This, a thousand times this!

The gleaming eyes in the dark, the blood freezing howls. The fact that you know that you may be dead in a gory way within a few seconds of carelessness. And later on it gets even more scary.

What about Tumbleweed? I find the mansion creeps me out.

Anyway, im a complete pu**y when it comes to scary games.
So name it, and im probally scared of it.
Not really. The only times I was sent to that mansion was for a shootout or for treasure. However, the guy who asks you to collect flowers in Stillwater creek for his wife. If you actually do the quest. The ending is quiet creepy.

I don't normally play scary games... Just don't find the horror genre all that interesting. I played a couple of Resident Evil games but didn't find them scary.

I guess the scariest game I've ever played was Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. The game itself isn't scary at all, but there's this haunted hotel area that's genuinely creepy as hell the first time you go there.
