I didn't know how to spell missile. For years, I've been spelling it "missle". Until last month, that was, when spellcheck complained. As a perfectly rational and open minded person, I assumed the spellcheck was wrong.

With regards to your little discovery, OP, what you are saying is:
x[sup]2[/sup] = 100y + z[sup]2[/sup]
x - 25 = y
50 - x = z
Substituting values for y and z into the first equation gives us:
x[sup]2[/sup] = 100(x - 25) + (50 - x)[sup]2[/sup]
And expanding the brackets gives us:
x[sup]2[/sup] = 100x - 2500 + 2500 - 100x + x[sup]2[/sup]

And it cancels nicely to get x[sup]2[/sup] = x[sup]2[/sup], which is obviously true. So it holds for all values of y and any z = 100, so you can't split up the number as nicely into two parts).

That there's an alien in every South Park. And, I shit you not, it's true.

The film American Beauty.

Saw it as a kid, when I wasn't supposed to be awake. My drowsy awareness combined with the film's quality made me feel like I'd seen something very special. Which I had; I was just hyper aware of it.

That was way too long ago... I need to experience more.

Love the reference. I also discovered this a few months ago & it was similarly mind-blowing.

OT: Apparently xenon is capable of forming bonds. Blew my mind when my chemistry teacher mentioned this.

21 squared=441
21-25=-4 (we could take the absolute value but just wait)
50-21=29
29 squared=841
...
8 + (-4) = 4

Not as impressive now.
