What will happen to 40k if THQ goes under?

Since Thq is now getting sued by Adidas, they're going further down the path to going under, sure they could get out of it, but this is about if they don't. If we were to go do a worst case scenario what would happen to Dawn of War, the upcoming DMO, and Space Marine 2 (I've heard rumors about it in development)? What would happen if Relic ends up in the hands of an evil publisher like [insert least favorite here]?

I'm more concerned about Company of Heroes.
I'm not big on it, but I have friends who love it.

It'd be interesting to see what happens with the liquidation of a relatively big publisher with so many profitable IP's. I wouldn't be too worried though, THQ seems like a strong company.

Hopefully what'll happen is the rights to Homeworld will follow them, and we'll have a beautiful sequel (Remake?) to the best series ever.

Shame 'bout your Warhammer, though. Hope that gets sorted eventually.

Games Workshop will just find a new publisher, who may or may not hire back Relic and the guys working on Dark Millennium. The only problem that would occur is if a big label picked them up like EA or Activision.

The only big publisher I feel comfortable with is Take Two.

I would be very depressed. I like the Dawn of War series and can't wait for Dark Millennium Online. Also worried for Metro Last Light and Darksiders 2. Honestly the worst thing I know THQ doing is some online passes which don't matter to me since I never play online in the first place.

Oh god forbid EA or Activision getting Relic. That'll be truly extra-heretical. Honestly I hope THQ can pull through. The CEO was responsible for some of their greater feats after all. He was there since the late 1990's right?

I really dont care about the 40k universe. Im only worried bout DOW 3 (I loved the first and second games) but god forbid relic gets bought by EA, no one deserves that fate.

I'd imagine Warhammer 40k would return to Games Workshop, and the big question at that point would be if anyone else wanted to buy the rights to the liscence to develop games, or if Games Workshop wanted to get into some kind of more direct liscencing deal themselves.

Given that the Warhammer 40k video games have been generally successful, I'd imagine the liscence wouldn't remain in limbo for too long. What would happen to it under the more evil publishers would largely depend on which of their developers were working on it. Truthfully with all the DLC attached to the last few Warhammer 40k games, I have my doubts that we'd notice much of a differance with an official "evil publisher" like EA or Activision at the helm.

To be entirely honest, I'm not sure that a change of publisher/developer would be entirely bad, I felt "Dawn Of War II: Retribution" was lacking, with all of the differant factions sharing the same basic maps and scenarios and having to do the same gimmick fights with only slight variation. I think the series kind of ceased to progress after "Soulstorm" to be honest.

Having read things like the "Eisenhorn" and "Ravenor" series I think there is a lot of potential for the franchise as an actual RPG if someone wanted to go in that direction. I've also wondered what a company like Bethesda could do with a Warhammer 40k themed open sandbox Action/RPG hybrid if someone was to say mix up "Space Marine" with a lot of customization, multiple character types, and most importantly an open world to explore and mixed quest structure.

While unrelated I'll also say I've been hoping someone would pick up the Necromunda liscence, years ago they were releasing some Necromunda novels which I hoped would lead to
it spreading to other kinds of media, but it never really happened, although you do hear that paticular hive world and some of the gangs being mentioned once in a while in various 40k novels.

The worst case scenario would be Relic getting bought out by EA. I would even prefer Ubisoft or Activison to EA. Hopefully though THQ will stay afloat as they have a lot of IPs that I like. I know im going to be buying Metro: Last light new anyway but I will probably get Darksiders 2 new as well, just to support them since they are one of the better publishers.

Why is Adidas suing them?

I really hope they survive, I really enjoyed both the CoH and DoW games, and Space Marine is the next game I'm gonna buy.

Warhammer games have done well enough for the license to get picked up by another developer. I don't know what all this 'evil developer' stuff is on about though. No one is actively going to say "We must ruin their beloved games so we can make them cry!". There may be changes, there may be not, and even if it does change, it might be to address complaints people had about previous games.

Also, I saw something about an RPG in one post, that sounds awesome. I'd love an investigate-y, combat-y RPG based on the Inquisition. Essentially I'd like to be able to play Dark Heresy as a computer game. We're on a mission from the God-Emperor.

I'm Inquisitor Barzano, and this is my favourite store in the Imperium.

I wonder if Games Workshop would consider buying Relic if THQ had to sell them, after all they have been making 40k games for 8(?) years now and they seem to be profitable.

Imagine if Obsidian got the chance to do a 40K RPG based on Ravenor or Eisenhorn.

Oh god it'd be beautiful.

If EA, Blizztarded, or Activision even LOOK at Warhammer the wrong way, I will strangle someone.

Hopefully whoever gets the rights to their good IP does not fuck it up. DLC wise, I'm sure an "evil" pub wouldn't be much different but I do not want to see Dawn of War remade as a FPS because who would want to play a Dawn of War 3 RTS? What if one of those other pubs did that to Company of Heroes? I can only hope that THQ gets it shit together and they keep letting Relic do what they do best.

That is my fear or else they give Bethesda a 40k RPG to do. Don't get me wrong I like their games but I need more than an immersive world for a 40k game if it were to be a RPG. Well, that is one thing Bethesda can't seem to do which is good combat game play. Block or Shield bash and then smack someone twice doesn't make for engaging combat.

EA will step into the void, gut the franchise, piss people off with Origin and its features and rules.

But on the plus side, it will give the internet something to rage over for months on end, and at the end of the day isnt that what gaming is all about?
