I think you might be underestimating human creativity. I really doubt we'll ever completely exhaust our supply of topics.

Strikes me that we wouldn't need so many topics if more people were having actually conversations rather than bashing out a reply, never reading or replying to other people's points, not taking part in any kind of debate.

I often see posters I quite like (and who often express themselves better than I) say things that I like and wonder if anyone will actually start a conversation on an interesting point (I usually can't beyond "I agree" which is neither interesting nor useful).

edit3: you are right sir, but most topics are like this, a repost of an old topic, filled with people just 1 line posting about whatever the subject is, not even considering viewing to what the topic has evolved if it even has, cause that is pretty rare

if it is, you will have 1-3 people talking back and forth about something which quickly dies, any kind of fullscale debate just dies on page 2 where people just rehash others oppinions without looking or reading

I shall answer that in a not very tactful fashion. We will start making meaningless threads wondering about having no original threads without actually realising that we ran out of them ages ago. We will live through a slow period of decay and will not realise it until the cancer that is threads such as this one consume us and we all immigrate to different, new sites.

Although what would really happen is that the stratosphere would completely liquefy due to supercooling that has only been prevented by the Escapist's sheer awesomeness. The liquid gases would fall down and freeze us all in a rain of liquid nitrogen. And the liquid oxy would ignite super-easily. fire and ice man, fire and ice.
