Today I've stumbled upon a certain phrase that I got curious about. So, I am reading "Gate" manga and one of the female characters says to the male protagonist (not direct quote): "Women think the same things of a Man who is nice to everyone as Men think about Woman that spreads her legs for everyone".

This is a question mostly to the ladies of The Escapist (but obviously not exclusive to them): how true is this statement?

I really am baffled by those words.

P.S. This is NOT a "nice guy" and "friendzone" thread. I am pointing it out just in case.

EDIT:OK, I think I need to clarify something, because I think I wasn't as clear as I should've been.
What was meant is that woman wants her man to be nice only to her. I think it was meant as a desire for, um, loyalty(?).

Well brace yourself because it's going to become one.

OT: I am not a woman so "dunno". Surely a girl who "spreads her legs for everyone" would be comparable to a guy who also rides indiscriminately rather than just being nice.

Truthfully, it's doubtful there's any veracity to that statement. Odds are it was written by a guy, correct me if I'm wrong. So unfortunately, despite your ps, yeah it probably is a diatribe about "nice guys" finishing last.
The manga is written by a Japanese person named Yanai Takumi. I do not know whether it's a guy or a gal since I can't find any photos. Is "nice guy" a thing in Japan? I dunno, but I think not.

Heterosexual male weighing in here.

I'd say you might be placing too much stock in that bit of dialogue. Comics and manga aren't exactly my go-to source for understanding gender relations in real life, nor are the writers known for being experts in the field.

Kindness is akin to promiscuity depending on gender? I don't see it, in any context. I'm just gonna assume either the writer is an idiot, or it was written to make the character an idiot.

I think it's true that there are some women who like their men to be "bad guys" - it flatters their ego that they've managed to "tame" them, and presumably they would also have less to worry about in terms of the guy cheating if he comes across as distant or unapproachable to most.

Isn't that the appeal of the manga "tsundere" archetype, too? I.e. a ***** / ice-queen female that the male protagonist eventually manages to win over, providing the twin benefits of demonstrating what a great guy he must be, and securing a fiercely loyal partner.

Well, I do think the same.

I think `well there's a person living their life how they want to`.

But, seriously, I'll read that the way I imagine I'm supposed to if I was one of those people who thought women shouldn't be out having The Sex- that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

`God damn it Johnny, the way you helped that old lady across the street- like what is wrong with you? Flashing your kindess around for all to see! You should be ashamed of yourself. Go do something horrible and maybe we'll respect you`

Mate here is a pro tip: don't take lessons on life from entertainment pieces. They write stupid shit to entertain you, that is all that they do, the statement made is about as relevant to reality then any old shit out of a Rambo movie.

Woman aren't a hive mind, people are more complicated than that and there are some who like ass-holes but in general no, that's certainly not true of me nor do I think it's true of the majority. Being nice for a guy is not even close to being the equivalent of loose.

I know you said this isn't a "nice guy" thread but it's same mentally just phrased differently. Honestly it sounds like it was written by someone pissy that girls aren't jumping on them and so trying to put the blame on them for not liking "nice" guys or trying to justify being an asshole.
If anything the link between overly nice and not getting dates is that a lot of people who are overly nice are timid or think they are nice but are more passive aggressive and whiny. Again this is just me but I don't think about dating under normal circumstance so unless a guy actually asks me out I won't have even thought of them that way so if their not confident enough to even do that I'm obviously not going to date them.
Thinking that being nice is to everyone is something that is a hindrance to getting dates is a bit silly to me because most people are fairly nice unless you give them a reason not to be. Nice is far from an uncommon trait.

Its not a good idea to use manga as guide to the psychology of women. There is reason why Japan has a very low birth rate.

Hey, I don't think that most of manga and/or graphic novels are a good source for an actual knowledge too. I was just, as I said before, confused by this statment.

Errr... getting a life lesson from manga is like getting a relationship advice from porn. When the plumper comes round, they actually do need to fix your plumbing. Not every sexual encounter involved tentacles.

So the saying is as bollocks as drawn animated big boobs. It's a fantasy and you need to snap out of it lads!!!

I thinkyou meant "plumber". Maybe not, but that's generally a specific type of porn.
Something tells me if you search hard enough "plumper" will be a porn category. Wait, if it is... nope, not researching it.
