What's Bioshock like?

I was thinking of playing the original bioshock so that I know the background when Bioshock II comes out. However, I'm terrible at trying to figure out where to run next. If the next step in a game isn't obvious then I don't have any fun playing it at all.

So, is Bioshock filled with "find the right tunnel/switch/door/etc." or is it pretty obvious what you need to do next?

If your good with maps, unlike me, then you should fly through it.
But if your not, then try going down random hallways, you'll eventually go down the right one.

You have an arrow telling you where to go at all times, and it's marked on a map.

The game has an option for an arrow to tell you where to go, and your objectives can glow gold, and the game is linear. Basically, if you have trouble finding where to go, you probably have bigger issues :p

it can be confusing if you don't pay attention to the arrow, but if my memory serves me correctly, towards the end the arrow disappeared and I was left running around the big daddy facility looking for the next pieces of the suit.

its the best game ive played in a very long time; so what if its linear? its so good it doesn't need to be open ended. the story telling, setting, gameplay and soundtrack make it more brilliant than practically any open ended sand box style borefest (the obvious exceptions being oblivion and gtas vice city and san andreas).
as for what its like, everyone says its like system shock, which means nothing to me, but it might to other peple.

bioshock good, buy, play, there is arrow to help you navigate, but it easy to navigate, good level design, if you get lost it will be cool

It's really rather easy in terms of gameplay, but the world that it's based around is incredibly complex and fascinating. The inclusion of various audio diaries scattered around Rapture help flesh out the immaculate storyline, and many of these diaries can be related to various visual clues around the game, help the player to piece together exactly what happened in this mysterious underwater city.

So if you're a fan of an absolutely incredible storyline with mediocre gameplay, go right for it, but if it's a challenge you're after go for its predecessor, System Shock 2.

Yeah, I wholeheartedly agree with System Shock 2, Withnail.

If you really want a challenge, you should play System Shock.

SS2 was simple by comparison (although quite a bit more complex than Bioshock).

Theres a SS1 remake(ish) here...
