Just a little thing I want to ask any PC gamers about. What's the appeal in playing on a PC over a console?

EDIT: Can you guys please stop quoting the starting post? I'm going to read most of the replies anyway, you don't have to flood my inbox.

In my cade its because I own a PC capable of playing modern games im not sure I could switch to a console, because its a laptop and the portability is a big thing with me

most people get into the controller vs mouse/keyboard when it comes to FPS, I think gamepad is fine if your used to it but its completley retarded for anyone not used to it or who prefers keyboard/mouse its waaayy more acurate

Well, a PC is very good at all sorts of things other than gaming. If you're not that hard core a gamer, I don't see why you need to invest in a console, really.

Mods, changable controls. Better Graphics a lot of the time. A lot of great games are PC only (Or made for it) Can buy over Steam and save 50$, Touhou is on PC, Prefer mouse & Keyboard. The list goes on and on.

console games are like 10-20 dollars more than pc games in my area.

Keyboard and mouse is more versitile

I dont have a hd tv

Mods

Steam is awesome

Firefox/internet browsing

1650x1050 resolution

games like Assassin creed(third person) i play on ps3 cause the controller allow me to move in 360 degrees

Games like Cod i prefer on PC cause the mouse just seems more accurate than the joystick on ps3

The only reason that I've started gaming on my PC as well as my PS3 is for Steam sales. Other than that I don't really have much of a preference. My friends mostly play on consoles but I'm fine not playing with them since I mostly own single player games anyway.

Open platform. All the good games get there, and then run with better graphics.

Choice of user inputs. Does this game run better with a control pad? Why yes it does. I'll just plug one in then. Do I want to use a gamepad in my left hand, a mouse in my right, and racing wheels for my feet? Yeah, I can do that too.

Also, my PC can do way more than a console. I can watch Netflix and play games at the same time. I can edit video, make music, make art. Hell I can make games.

For me, spending money on a one-trick-poney device and then shelling out through the nose for 60 dollar games is a waste. That cash should go towards my much more useful and much more entertaining PC.

I have just gotten into PC gaming, but I can't really say it is superior to Console gaming. Everyone I know says it is more accurate for shooters(which I play mostly), but I can't really tell the differce. The addition of mods is a huge plus for some games though.

Mods. It consistently amazes me how talented modding communities can be. From simple gameplay tweaks to graphical overhauls and total conversions, mods can extend the longevity of a game considerably.

Good sir, you have summed up almost every reason that could be said. I would also like to add in emulators and roms.

maybe my ps3 controller is just old and broken but when i played cod on ps3 i would aim to the left of someone, tap the joystick the smallest amount and it jumps to the the right of him. so to aim i would have to move my actual character to the left or right cause movement seemed more precise than aiming

on pc i can aim at the enimies head arm leg ball sack right eye or left eye. its just thatmuch more precise.

While I still prefer console to pc, I play on both and I can understand why people like pc better. Pc has better rts games, mods, more people for shooters, mods, steam makes games cheaper, mods. I think you get the picture

However, consoles have better flight sims and ace combat.

Yeah, I think that is your controller. I have played on all platforms, and I can aim with the best of 'em.

- Mouse and keyboard. (Just my preference, please nobody panic.)

- Steam. Can you download the full version of Bulletstorm onto your 360?

- The indie market. Somewhat abated by XBLA and PSN, but not much. To get your indie game on console, you need the approval of the console maker. Not so with PC. (I feel genuinely sorry for all those people who can't play Amnesia.)

- Dedicated servers. (Although I'm not sure why consoles don't have them too.)

- Graphics. If you care about that sort of stuff.

- RTSs and MMOs. If you care about that sort of stuff. (I don't.)

- Mods. Once again, if you care for that stuff.

- Cheaper games. I have no idea why this is the case. Here in Australia the difference is about $30.

- No XBL fees.

- Less loadmouthed 12-year-olds with headsets. Note I said "less", not "none".

So there. Now I'm outa here before the inevitable flame war gets going.

PS. Yes, there are downsides as well. Compatibility, cost, DRM etc. I know. Do I ever know.
