What's the deal with Twitter?

I found out today that 2 of my friends recently got Twitter accounts. While I do feel a little left out, I don't have any incentive to make an account of my own. Tweets don't have any use for me, not even entertainment value (with the possible exception of shitmydadsays). If something happened that is worth repeating, I will text it, or mail it, or just talk to the person I want to tell it to.

How did Twitter get so big and what do people see in it? Do you have a Twitter account and if so, why? What do you think of Twitter?

I know what you mean, I've never quite seen the appeal of it myself. I've tried to get into it, but nope, not doing it for me.
"Twitter" seems aptly named, inconsequential twittering amongst many people you don't know, nor care to know.

The idea of knowing what other people (often strangers it seems) are doing/saying at any given moment in their life is unappealing to me. If I cared to know what they're doing I'd ask them or search for it.

Stalking for people who can't be bothered to leave the house, buy a camera/NV goggles or for those whose staple diet centres around sausage and bean bakes from greggs and so their motor skills are seriously diminished

Dislike things?

Why do you like games?

That's about the difficulty of the question you're asking.
I'unno why I like it.

I just do
Even so, when giving it some thought I can think of some reasons why I like games. Are there any... aspects of Twitter that you find appealing? Anything you can name?

I have an account, but i have NO IDEA why.

I've updated all of once.

It's fairly pointless.

I rarely use my Twitter anymore. If anything, I use it to keep up on what my favorite bands/singers/celebrities are doing. And that's not very often that I check in on that. I'm so glad none of my friends were into it either.

It's for people who like to feel they are the centre of the universe and don't really care about interaction or what others have to say.

THe most telling thing about Twitter is that you talk @ people, not to them.

Not really

It's just me and some friends messing around and saying stupid things.

"Hello"
"Wait... you're a banana?"
"OMG HOW DID YOU KNOW?! My plans are foiled"

For example
Okay, but do you actually need Twitter for that? :p That sounds like the average Steam conversation for me.

Though the word 'poney' gets thrown around a lot more.

I use twitter for update related stuff, People like Ryan north often link pretty interesting articles on their twitter too. So no, I never use it, but it's handy To follow a small number of webcomicists for example.

I have absolutely no idea what twitter actually is. From the sound of it, i'm better off in my ignorance

because its a way for people to catch up with what each other is doing, without having to call them

Yes, this.

I tried following Mark Hoppus and Pete Wentz, since they have heavily active tweets but it turned out they were both in Australia at the time and were making plans to have breakfast together or something and I got real depressed because man now I'm not even cool enough to have breakfast properly. So I went back to just following internet-famous people, 'cause they seem to be relatively mundane, and that's something I can at least aspire to.
