our group is supposed to find and research some new innovation in the gaming industry (individually at first) that is new and relatively unknown. here is the actual prompt:

"This assignment involves researching a new communication technology innovation that you believe will be desireable for the gaming industries... search for a new technology innovation that would be desired by those who work or own businesses in the assigned communication industry or by their users/audiences/consumers. The approach taken could range from a new technology that enhances or improves what currently exists, one that solves a current challenge in the industry, one that addresses a user/audience/consumer need or desire, to a technology that drastically changes the industry. Look for something that is new or that very few people are aware of. Also, we have a media focus in this class so avoid technologies that are not relevant to this class or to the industry"

i was hoping i could get help regarding what new innovation i should cover (i already have quite a few ideas) but thought my fellow escapists could help me find the best topic possible while raising awareness/ support for new ideas and technologies

so, what new innovation in gaming do you think will revolutionize the industry?

This times a million. It's the DRM and service problems so many publishers are wrestling with solved in one fell swoop. It's doing to video games what iTunes did to music--streamlining the process to make the service more valuable than the service of the pirates.

And it would be lovely if they could all be about the same as Steam. It does what it's supposed to do without a lot of crap. EA has taken that simple formula and turned it into a disaster. Really, guys. Just keep it simple, that's all we want.

EA's main problem is that they don't see themselves as underdogs in a market that's already got an established leader (Steam) and an established bottom-feeder (GFWL)

im looking for something that people havent heard of and anybody who hasnt heard of steam by now will never really use it. i was originally thinking about doing my project on the virtual dome: Sensics SmartGoggles (http://ces.cnet.com/1606-33363_1-50118033.html)

i was also looking at cloud gaming because, while it has been around for a while, it isnt very popular as of yet and i think the industry (at least pc) is moving in that direction
