As you might have guess from looking around the site, Nintendo's Wii U has not been as hot as Nintendo would like it. And as a result of this people are ...celebrating? Openly declaring Nintendo dead? Screaming to the high heavens that Nintendo needs to die? ...WHAT?!?

Yeah, this is the topic I want to discuss. What is with the bile against Nintendo? And I don't mean legit complaints. Things like the huge dry period, hardware problems, loading times, long updates and the ilk are legitimate complaints and should be discussed. What I don't understand is what I described in the first paragraph. The unfiltered bile everyone seems to have against Nintendo. So my question is simple: what causes such over the top hate for Nintendo lately?

Dunno what site you've been reading but I havnt seen much of that. IMO the Wii U is in a bad place right now. It doesnt have many games out for it that justifies the purchase and nintendo said it wanted to help 3rd party developers utilize the technology but I havnt seen any evidence of that yet.

When the console finally gets some good games it'll sell but from the sales figures I saw last quarter the Wii is actually outselling the WiiU

Nintendo has sold its soul to the Gimmick Gods. That's all there is too it. It needs to get out of the console market forever.

Dunno about the console market but Nintendo is conquering the handheld market in my book. The 3DS/DS has so many amazing titles on it and it isn't held by back by its gimmicks like the Wii and Wii U are.

Also what are you talking about? I haven't seen any Nintendo hate on this site, and certainly nothing 'extreme'.

Each of the Big 3 get picked on in one way or another. The issue with Nintendo now is that the floundering of the WiiU kind of intensifies it.

Same happened with Sony when the PS3 launched.

I haven't seen that much hate for Nintendo on this site.

What I think you're talking about is the fact that if there's a thread that openly sais "let's bash this or this thing", what kind of people are going there? Well of course like minded people who don't like said thing. So yeah, I've been in a few threads with "hate nintendo" or "nintendo should die" or etc. But very few even care to go there and defend Nintendo because we know our arguments go on to def ears.

Then again. This happens to everything, there are games here being looked down upon. There are books, consoles, writers, shows etc that some people don't like, it's just that since the WiiU has been released (about 5-6 months ago) it's still fairly new and new people come into contact with it and decide they don't like it = rant. In about 6 months this same thing will happen with PS4 and the next Xbox console. After that we'll have the "newgen war" which I really am NOT looking forward to.

So yeah, people have a free mind = everyone can't like everything = rants/hate. And this will be going on forever. There are always those who scream a lot and might make something seem bigger than it actually is. Don't mind this and stay out of stupid argumentations (also known as flame wars) and keep liking what you like, stay away from stuff you don't like, pretty simple really.

I'm sorry, this is extremely stupid. Sold itself to the gimmick gods? Even if that were true, why would it deserve to leave? So you don't like the Wii. At least we have something different into the market. The reason why everything is going all same is that consoles are screwing themselves over trying to become a PC. At least Nintendo grants us a little variety.

And you haven't answered my question. Why do you hate so vehemently? You are acting like Nintendo killed you family. You *spit* on Nintendo for doing things you don't like? Have we gamers become this petty that we cannot comprehend that other people might like different things?

Again, this makes no sense. So you want LESS Nintendo games? Like, I know Mario gets a lot of flak and not entirely undeserved but the current schedule they have involving Mario is akin to the NES days, or did everyone forget how close together sequels were?

Nintendo dead? Not a chance, they have a big enough stockpile of raw cash to just keep going for a good 50 years or oss and break even.

Nintendo irrelevant? That remains to be seen, we had this with the 3DS, the Wii U needs games, those games are coming, it's just unfortunate that it wws launched before many of them were out and even some of the launch games themselves could be considered too early (ZombiU as an example).

Nintendo are going nowhere, we're far more likely to see Microsoft or Sony drop out than Nintendo for financial reasons, Microsoft is losing relevancy ina lot of areas and Sony's stuff in other areas just isn't doing that well.

Pretty sure the problem is that they've been doing it since the NES days.

It's the internet! What would normally be just disapproval or dislike gets exaggerated for some reason. That what I figure, anyway.

I personally don't hate Nintendo, I just don't like them all that much.

Haven't played on a Nintendo console since the Gamecube(then again not a console gamer since the ps2) Kinda miss the games but the wave your hand around stuff is not very interesting in my book.

1) Endless re-using of the same IP, refusal to try any new IP
2) Wii's motion sensor being a piece of shit with delay/accuracy frustrations for a VERY long time
3) Innovative control methods purely for the sake for innovation and no practical reason. "At least it's unique" is not a fucking justification, a sandwich filled with shit is also unique
4) Catering to casual gamers while throwing hardcore gamers out on their asses
5) Refusal to use decent hardware, it was either having games look like shit (or use cell shading) or not having graphics-heavy games at all
6) Terrible third party support
7) Did I mention terrible hardware support?

While I don't share in any malice toward Nintendo, I certainly do understand why people have it. For many people, Nintendo was what got them into gaming, and they feel like they've been left out in the cold as the big N has embraced a wider audience. EA gets a ton of flack (not undeserved) for the homoginezation of its games, but with the Wii, to many it seems like that was done with the whole console. The Wii helped produce more shovelware than I've seen since the market was flooded back in the 80s.

Another problem are the core Nintendo titles. One of the things that made Nintendo so big was its ability to take great ideas and make them even better with subsequent iterations. Super Mario Bros. was great, SMB 2 took paltforming to a really interesting place with some neat mechanics, SMB 3 is a classic for the ages and SMB World took the formula amazing heights. If you look at SMB Wii, it seemed like it was copying ideas from SMB 3 wholesale despite the fact that SMB 3 had already been outdone. At some point, Nintendo quit improving those beloved titles and started simply cannabalizing its old ideas, creating games that weren't even as good as ones they created decades ago.

In short, the first issue made it seem like NIntendo no longer cared about its audience and the second issue drove it home. It wasn't that Nintendo simply made some mistakes, but seemed to deliberately shun the people who helped make it a great company while simultaneously ripping that audience off by trying to resell them 20 year old ideas. I hope Nintendo is successful. I hope Nintendo realizes its mistakes and fixes them. And I hope Nintendo gets back to what it used to do so very well, but if Nintendo continues to act as if people who don't count gaming as a core hobby are more important to market to than those who do, they can expect for those that do to shun them in return.

This is pretty much it to be honest. When you get a news story, you tend to attract the two extremes. Those who with an extreme view on the positive side, and those with an extreme view on the negative side.

We just happen to notice the negatives more often. The people who post the nice, normal views don't stand out, so nobody really notices or responds to them. It's why everything always seems to be so divisive.

I have seen pretty much everything in regards to gaming hated by some people, if you only look at the negatives, you could say that gamers don't like anything.

The 3DS has some amazing games this year. I don't understand the hate for Nintendo. Their games are always quality. When's the last time you heard of a Nintendo game having bugs or not working. Can't say the same for many other companies.

I'm an old school gamer so maybe I have a bit more respect for them than a lot of others.

I must disagree heavily with that first part. Their games are not always quality. They may not have bugs and may function as intended, but that is not all there is to quality. While I already picked on SMB Wii in my post above, it is as bad as any regurgitated sequel in terms of being a bland cash-grab. Bethesda games are so full of bugs it's jaw dropping, but I'd take a bug filled New Vegas over SMB: The Rehash any day.

My only problems with Nintendo are that the Wii U doesn't have nearly enough games for it - although hopefully that should change by the end of this year, and that New Super Mario Bros is just the same game over and over. People say that about other Nintendo franchises but they change enough that it isn't a problem for me. NSMB though is pretty much the same each time. I mean, I'm not one of those people that cry out that every game must "innovate", but Christ.

EDIT: Also I will forever look down on them until they announce the "DS Player" for the Wii U. GIVE ME WHAT I WANT NINTENDO! =P

I hated Nintendo before Yahtzee made it cool.
I always thought their games were juvenile, repetitive, boring, and overall annoying. And their "innovative" gimmicks were the worst offenders. They keep trying to make kid/family games, which are the most boring games to me, so maybe that's part of it. But in general, Nintendo are just shit - or at best, medicore. The fact that they keep releasing rehashes of the same games doesn't help either.
