I watched the movied with my eleven-year-old cousin last year, and they were perfectly okay to me. By no means cinematic masterpieces, but nevertheless acceptable entertainment. Why are they so disliked by people?

High School Musical.

A musical about high school. A pop musical about high school. For children I imagine it passes, for my jaded, game rotted brain, it does not. At least, that's why I don't like it. Dammit I listen to the Black Mages on repeat! I will not have this sissy music assault my ears willingly!

Because a lot of people are pretentious, and can't stand "mindless dribble" making millions. Everything must have layers upon layers of subtext and reflect 'reality'.

Because they're popular.

Oh yeah and the songs. Those tunes that insidiously worm their way through your ear canal and into your brains. Those hell spawned melodies that refuse to leave you alone no matter how hard you try. Curse you inexplicably catchy music, you've ruined my life yet again!

Annoying songs, terrible acting, that blank-faced kid with the floppy hair.

I saw it on TV a few years ago, and it was just laughably bad, even for something aimed at little kids. So very, very cliched; it was a bit like someone extended an 80's teen show to over an hour and randomly threw so songs in.

There's nothing I like about it and a whole bunch of things about it I dislike. The very idea high school is anything like that is enough to make me rage. The songs have simple rhythms that refuse to leave your head even if you hear them in passing. The hokey cliche of every damned characterisation attribute and plot element. The fact after the first, they spawned 2 that were even worse and had the balls to charge to see the 3rd.

Despite all I this, I'm undecided on Zac Effron as an actor. I haven't seen a movie I've really wanted to see starring him yet, and based on that movie I will judge his aptitude as an actor.

High School Musical should not be accepted by any one, the reason all the music is terrible and being as it is in the title that should throw up a red flag there, secondly all those movies are, are a cheap way to assualt any one under 13 with mass merchindising not only visually, but, auditorily as well. For shame, on all of those who induldge in this vile thing.

The real question here is: "What isn't wrong with High School Musical?" It has little to no entertainment value to anyone with an IQ above 40, the "acting" is poor, the singing is annoying and, as in all musicals, pointless, stupid and sad.

The worst part is that this Zac Effron guy become this sensation with all girls over the age of 10 overnight. Yet the saddest is he is about as intelligent as his fans.

Actually, this. I see nothing wrong with HSM, and I like those films. I also like Twilight. I also happen to enjoy German art film The White Ribbon, Citizen Kane, Alfred Hitchcock films and the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. So anyone dares tell me I have bad film taste, screw them.

Basically, people are elitist and decide that because they don't like something, anyone who does like it is automatically retarded. Which is the stupidest justification I've ever heard anyone have for anything, save for religion (and yes, I am Christian myself, thank you very much). I have the same 'justification' used on me constantly because I like the TV show 'Glee' and my brother doesn't.

My advice? If you have an opinion, then have that opinion, and if anyone ever tells you that opinion isn't worth having? That person isn't worth listening to. Anyone tries to tell you that High School Musical is crap? Ignore them and carry on watching it. If you like it, that's all that matters.

On that note, isn't it funny how so many people think that the opinions of others are theories, while their own opinion is a fact? For instance: "Everybody kept talking about what a great movie Slumdog Millionaire was, and how I just had to see it, so I did. It's not a great movie. It's okay, sure, but not as great as people say it is." In other words: "If other people think it's great, that's their opinion. If I think it's okay, that's a scientific fact."

Main reason I don't like HSM is because it is a musical. I do not care for musicals that much but I will make exceptions for a few. Plus, HSM was more or less marketed to people younger than 22(My Age). The HSM series is not bad it just isn't something I care for.

Some people like it and some people dislike it.

First there's a "What's wrong with Star Wars: Episode 1", and now there's a "What's wrong with High School Musical?". What's next, "What's wrong with Transformers 2?", closely followed by "What's wrong with the super mario bros. movie?", no doubt.

The music is bad, the kids can't really act, but most importantly, it's not entertaining at all for me.

It is of poor quality, even for it's target audience.
I don't like the idea that something so poorly acted and overall bad is being given to our kids.
They deserve better than that.
