Ever since I was smaller I played racing games. Gran Turismo to NFS, I've played many. But it seems whenever I bring it (racing games) up to friends they just go, "Eh..It's a racing game...eh..I don't think so." And this isn't just one or two friends. Pretty much everyone I know who plays games somehow dislikes all racing games. They can't ever tell me specifics either just that they don't like them. Is there a problem with them I'm missing? How can you not think this is awesome?

Because Mario Kart was too fun?

Most racing games seem rather...uneventful and too much the same. And many of the deeper stuff in it seems boring, (tuning the car)

Just giving the view point from the outside, not saying it is fact.

Driving around in circles is repetitive, unless its nascar, then its awesome and the hottest sport in America.

I find them fun for a while but they just don't have the longevity to keep me entertained for a long time.

I like racing games! Granted, modern racing games often piss me off... particularly because of their frequent lack of local multiplayer... which for me is one of the big selling points of a racing game. Still, to reiterate my original point, I like a good racing game. Not all the time mind you, but when I'm in the mood for it definately.

The lack of entertainment value. I can only get so much fun out driving cars in games except for Burnout i enjoyed it for quite a while.

I consider myself a racing game fan although i've been kind of losing interest in them too lately. They're repetitive, same cars, same tracks, etc. The last time I really, geniunely enjoyed a racing game was when SegaGT 2002 came out. I love that game so much, it captures the feel I was looking for. It has some personalization, a bit of history, an easy to access test track and the music/graphics/gameplay were solid. (I kind of like the arcade feel to it)

There ok, but they need to have some sort of gimick or stick that draws me in. Or a really bad ass trailer. GT and its uber realism never stuck much of a fancy with me. Although with Need For Speed and its running from the law-ness, i always though it was kinda bad ass.

Although racing games are never as fun as the Mario Kart/clone ones :3

Personally, I think anyone who hates racing games needs to pick up a copy of WipEout and try it, but really, it's not exactly a popular genre.

I don't like going in circles over and over again. It's just to repetitive for me. That's why I like Mario Kart so much, it changes things up with the awesome power ups and such. And to answer your question, the way I don't find that trailer awesome is that I really don't care about cars at all. It's just metal to me.

I love racing games to pieces and I can't wait until GT5 comes out.

But then again I hate a lot of RPG's and RTS's and most of my friends love them genres.
It's all a matter of preferance. Some people like 'em. Others hate 'em.

F-Zero GX

after racing at speeds over 2000 kph, normal sim racing just doesn't give me that thrill anymore.

I personally love racing games. I have Gran Turismo 3 and I had Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, Underground and Underground 2 on the PS2. I also have Burnout 3: Takedown. Why do I love racing games? I don't really know why. I just do.

But, I can see why people wouldn't enjoy them. Sometimes they tend to be repetitive.

Mario Kart's the shit because of fun and interesting power ups and scenery, which actually give you the capacity to place at 8th in the last lap of the game. I think that one of the big problems with realistic racing games is that while it may be an accurate depiction of real life, it's just not very fun to just "do your best" in a game. In a racing game, the key is to be as perfect as possible. Apart from doing that, the only real competition is hoping that your opponent can't be as perfect as possible. I don't think many people will find that very fun in a video game setting, especially in multiplayer situations. Of course, there are games like Mario Kart, and Blur which buck that trend, but they seem to be quite popular.

I really like the innovation and storylines in racing games. Each one of them is so unique and full of interesting stuff.

Like in this one racing game you drive fast cars, making laps around a racecourse. And in this other racing game you drive custom fast cars, making laps around a racetrack.

there just hasnt been very many new innovations in the racing genre other than adding new tracks and new cars. it would be similar to making a new fps with the same guns but different skins and new maps. i also love racing games but i see them much like how i see sports games, i may buy one every few years. NFS shift and madden 07 have made me happy in both categories, i dont need to buy anything new for a while in either genre
