Whats wrong with the CoD community?

I am quite new to the Call of Duty franchise but decided to pick up Black Ops to see what all the fuss was about. So i practised on combat training before going online, but nothing could prepare me for the amount of hateful insults that were thrown around while in game. I do know that once in a while two people won't get along and will starting arguring, its human behaviour, but i have never seen so many people be so abusive. I am used to the DoW 2 community and there is very little abusive behaviour there compared to the CoD community.

So my question is why is the CoD communtiy so abusive? or have i just had very bad luck being in the same matchs as every t**t.

I must have copies of CoD (4 through to BlOps) that have online modes in a different universe, because not once have I had any kind of issue with the XBL community while playing these games online. Maybe people are just whiners?

As long as you know where the "mute" and "block" buttons are, I'd say it's about the same as in other shooters.

Or at least, on the same level of annoying.

Really? Maybe you're just unlucky. CoD has a reputation for this sort of thing, but I don't see it very often. I went on MW2 today and most of the kids were just like "hey what's up", "hellooooo", "no, that's my brother's name" etc. etc. etc. I went on Black Ops a bit later and no-one even talked. Hell, even Halo Reach is really quiet these days.

The people who really steam my beans are the guys who say "shut the fuck up you stupid fucking 12 year old why do these kids even have mics?" when all they did was say hello to some other squeaky voiced pre teen. Although I do admit that the kids tend to be a bit more volatile when things go to hell.

This is one of the reasons that I traded Black Ops into Gamestop, that and the online play became a camping match with me being the only one running around

Whenever I find someone who is abusive, I just use the mute button, instead of complaining about it like almost all people do. It is easily solved I don't know why people see it as a problem...

I always hit the report button for vulgar people that piss me off but other than that I just leave the lobby. Submit Player Review, and move on.

The only reason I stay with hateful, swearing, douchebags on xbox live is if I get a game winning double kill with C4 in Search and Destroy. Just because now they're stroking my ego.

Edit: The worst community I've ever stumbled across was console L4D2 during its heydey.

I'd say that's bad luck. I hardly hear anything abusive and in black ops I haven't even heard any of the hate speeches I used to hear on occasion in modern warfare 2. I don't doubt they're not out there, just I haven't had the uhhh... pleasure of playing with them

I just mute everyone by default. Problem solved.

And if you play on PC most people rage in text chat so it's less annoying.

I dont think there are any more nuggets playing blackops than any other game! Its just because its so popular that its hard not to hear negative things!

Well its generally because on the Internet, all you are is a username. So little 13 year old Jack can say all the insults he wants online because he's KillaSnipze986!! Not Jack.

I play Black Ops on the PS3 and I haven't noticed much in the way of a crappy community, more like no community. People just come on and wordlessly play. There's the occasional micspammer, but that's easily muted. Maybe I need to antagonise them more...

Having said that, playing MW2 on Steam shortened my life expectancy; you may have a point.
