What's your favorite video game song?

After watching this weeks extra credits, I realized that my favorite video game song of all time is Final Fantasy. Each time I hear it, in fact, I almost cry and I have no idea why. I think the sound just calls to me in some way, but I'm not sure.

So, Escapist, what's your favorite song and why?

90% of the entire soundtrack of Chrono Cross comes to mind. From "Scars of Time", the intro song, to "Distant Promise", the gorgeous symphony you get when you invoke the Chrono Cross at the end, and almost every track between. I do not doubt that "Distant Promise" is one of the most awe-inspiring pieces of music I've ever heard; top three, definitely.

I've heard of it before, I still have it on my PS1... lol... I always thought it seemed like the inspiration for Red Steel...

The Dragon fighting theme from Baldurs Gate II. It's just so damn Epic I still find myself humming it at work sometimes.

I could never pick just one, but right now, it's this.
I'm not hugely into Left 4 Dead. I usually only play when my girlfriend wants to. Dark Carnival is easily my favorite campaign, though, and this song is one of the reasons why.

Far FAR too many to name. But as of late, one in particular has always been in my mind.


And if we were to go a bit further back, one other still stands out as a real gem amongst MOD music.


And even further than that...


As to why? Well...let's just say I have a real thing for rythmic and electronic music. Suicide Mission being the exception, because I love the fact that not only does the melody play out with the brass/strings but below it the drums just pound and keep such a rock-steady rythm going during the main parts.

Though even so, I'd be hardpressed to ignore the fact that such awesome themes as Tali and Grunt were very electronic-sounding indeed.
