I was playing Naruto 4 just now, and I was on my 22nd round in 3-man-cell survival mode, just about to die, yet dumbfounded by the progress I've made and how strong I've gotten. I couldn't wait to see how far up the high scores that 21-win-streak would put me. And then... the power went out. Hinata, Kiba, and Shino would not be in the Hall of Fame tonight. GAH!

I wouldn't call this the worst loss of progress ever in my case, but it was pretty disappointing. Now it's your turn to tell a story.

It can be the deletion of a save file, or just the game freezing before you could save, or something important being interrupted. Whatever you feel might qualify. Escapists, what's your worst case of losing game progress?

I just unlocked the Sai Fong weapon in Bayonetta with Bayonetta... and accidentally saved over the game with some brand new Jeanne data.

Oh, that was a sad day...

Around 4 hours of gameplay of Suikoden 3... only to have a power cut just before I got to a save point o.o'''

I've been lucky enough to not have losses of progress that derail me from a game...except when using emulators and accidentally hitting a certain combination of keys that closes the program, which pretty much stops me from even starting the game up again. I've learned to save early and often now though when playing games normally, as well as use multiple save files.

Golden Sun 2. I had imported my savedata from the first game. I had all Djinns and was in the bonus dungeon where I wanted to get the final (and presumably best) summon before finally finishing the game.
Then one of my little brothers saved over my progress. In both games.

I have never attempted to do it all over.

Well, my asshole friend just reformatted my PS3 hard drive. So I'd say that's pretty much it.

I would have to say the time I had my hard drive crash. I lost a 150+ hour Oblivion save file and a 200+ Morrowind save file along with some others.

Lately, I also lost a 75 hour Plants vs Zombie save file due to a poor implementation of Steam Could by Popcap. Granted, a lot of that was idle time, leaving the zen garden running to gain money to grow the wisdom tree. But, it was still painful.

when snes9x emulator decided to delete ALL my saves, for every single game, at once. i lost saves to probably 30+ games, some beaten, some soon to be, and some, i had tried out, but plan to attempt. i don't even know how many hours worth of work, all i do know, 8 month's worth of a mix of casual, and hardcore gameplay times put in, all gone.

Ouch! I can feel that one.

Me: Playing Baulder's gate. Running a party of three and one of them has glitched out. He keeps talking to me, pausing the game every second. I can kick him out the party but everyone I can replace him with is like level 2 and doesn't fulfill the role he provided. No choice really but to start over or continue with a subpar party.

FFIX. I've reached Necron. Final boss. After four discs of blood, swat, tears and grinding Grand Dragons, it's finally time to put an end to all of this... and then my brother accidently overwrote the save file, putting me back in Lindblum on the 1st disc...

That thought me to always keep a backup save or three.

I played Harvest Moon DS 20 hours in a 30 hour period to find that when I got my milker to level 2 and saved the game it corrupted the file. This apparently happened because the milker is SUPPOSED to glitch out and gain a level with each use after reaching level one, and my copy decided not to glitch.

I totally forgot to save when starting a new game of Prince of Persia WW. Doing an all fountain run I've finished off number seven and BAM! Freeze. That was when I remembered I never saved once.

2 that spring to mind, one of which is a lot more serious than the other.

Firstly, GTA Sanandras for the ps2. Got to the last mission and hadn't saved it for about 4 hours of solid mission running, wanted to finish it, didn't have time to piss about. Then my dad comes in and switches it off cos he needs the plug socket. didn't ask me, just did it. I was pissed off, but even more so when my brother finished the game a few days after and told me that was the very last level. haven't played it since.

The more serious time was a few months ago. My PS3 had a small problem on it, it wouldn't sign in online (this was before the PSN troubles) so I phoned up the helpline. They told me i needed to completely reset the system, deleting everything in the process. ALL my saved games, ALL my downloaded files, everything. I had to redownload all my DLCs for games and all the mini game things that i'd purchased from the store. Took 5 hours to delete it all, 10 days to re install it all. Half the games, i haven't played since cos i know it'll be hard to play from the very start again.
