When you play D&D, what is your character? (Yes I used the search button, don't be mean)

I did a search and the last post on the thread I saw was September of 2008, so I thought I'd do a new one.

The question's pretty much the title. If you don't play, just ignore this thread.

Personally, I like going Ranger for 10 levels or so, taking about 15 levels in Monk, and then switching back to Ranger to top him off at class level 20, character level 35. Then I'll take a prestige class, usually one I've designed myself for the world we're in, and get that halfway up (or all the way, if it's a fiver) for character level 40 and then take another prestige class for full level 50 splendor (that's my DM's cap, FYI).

So that's Ranger (20)/Monk (15)/Prestige Class I (5)/Prestige Class II (10)

It's a pretty good combo, though we usually start in the city, so the Ranger levels are kind of arbitrary sillyness (though I once sniped a bad guy from a roof; Heroic for the win).

So what's your preferred class balance?

Okay well when I played it was 3rd Edition so I rocked it as a WereTiger (Human) Bard (15) Assassin (10).

Depends on the setting, to some degree. Last character was a straight-up Ranger. He was pretty basic. I had planned on taking the Arcane Archer prestige class at some point, but then I forgot what the rules of Arcane Archers were.

By far, my favouritest character to play was the drunken Gnome rogue. I considered giving him a few levels of wizard along the way, but scrapped the idea and instead opted for loading him up on cross-class skills that helped his tinkering status. He was the most impish, fun-loving, engineering-savvy, drunken gnome rogue you ever did see!

I usually played whatever the party needed. My last characters that I remember were a human Scout, a human Warlock, and a half-elf Rogue. I especially liked the first two.

Aah one of those, 'throw as many classes togeher at once even if it doesn't make sence' type. Why would a ranger start training as a monk, why would a ranger be lawful?

Yeah I hate that shit.

I've only played D&D twice, and I played a Chaotic Good wood elf Ranger. Good times.

Also, during one game I latched onto one of the NPCs, and somehow he became one of our party. Oh Tiny Fighter, you were awesome.

I play 4e now, but when I played 3e I'd play Fighter/Weapon Master. Dual-wield Great Axes with a 4x multiplier and threat range 17-20? Yes please. Especially when you have 4 attack per round.

Don't even get me started on Ki Strike.

That...just seems ridiculously unlikely...Oh well, I've got a Lawful Good Ranger for half my levels, why am I complaining?

I know, right? Main reason I have the Monk levels. And that Great Axes thing sounds epic, especially with the house rules we have, I think I shall suggest this path for our tank.

Necromancer, always.

Playing one at current. May be my favourite character to play as. Soon I need a few cleric levels and he can become a 'True Necromancer' prestige class. Then he'll learn to become a Lich and become the bridge to death itself. Awesome. Big goals coming my way.

Good point. Maybe he was a town gua- yeah I have no idea?

I have a friend who just plays clerics mostly. It would only get boring playing one character. You should mix it up. Think of something you wouldn't play. A Gnome Barbarian?

4/4/6 Sorcerer/Favored Soul/Mystic Theurge. Gnome who has been reincarnated as a Grippli. I am also a cheesemaker, and as such, am blessed.

I usually play as a druid. This is such an underrated class. Get enough levels and you're pretty much invincible. Sometimes I take the Shifter prestige class...because nothing's more fun than turning into a dragon.
