When you think about it. Taking the red pill was a really fucking stupid idea.

Yes, I'm talking about the Matrix. If you don't know, in the movie the protagonist is faced with a choice of taking either a red or blue pill.

Taking the blue pill means that who get to come out of the Matrix. A simpulation world that you never really know existed. I won't bore with more details because I'm sure 98% of us have seen the movie.

Anyways, I was on my epiphany toilet, when I well... had an epiphany. I'm not sure whether this has been done before or not. But I just want to point out that taking the blue pill is a really bad idea.

This is the world ouside of the Matrix

This is what Neo is fighing for?

Can we even build a civilization out of that. Think about it.

At one point in the movie Morpheus says

"But we do know it was us that scorched the sky. At the time, they were dependent on solar power. It was believed they would be unable to survive without an energy source as abundant as the sun."
How the fuck are people supposed to survive without the sun? Plants wont grow. And I have yet to see water outside of the Matrix.

Sure, the Matrix is only simulated reality, but it looks a hell of a lot nicer than this.

Now my knowledge of the series past the first one is limited, seeing as they have been permanently blocked out of my memory. But how in gods name are you supposed to bring a booming civilization from this? Am I right?

It's backwards. Blue pill is "fuck this shit" option.

And i guess it's an aesop about valuing the truth more than comfort... or whatever.

I've thought about this before and I totally agree that staying in the matrix would have been a better idea than leaving. I mean, what do you want? A normal life, or a terrifying existence fighting for survival in a post apocalyptic machine dominated hell?

Well, humas are stubborn creatures, they will try to rebuild regardless of how futile an attempt it would be, but I suggest the Blue Pill

Well they have that oatmeal goop... HOVERCRAFTS and...

[HEADING=1]FREEDOM!!![/HEADING]

You know whats high-larious. The whole "we burned the sky, so they started eating us" plot hook.

Worst. Science. Ever.

1: the human body uses more energy growing than it ever produces.
2: humans derive their energy from food. Plants to be exact (cows and chickens get their energy from plants as well, so just skip strait to the plants).
3: plants metabolize the earth beneath them, and the CO2 in the air, using sunlight.
4: Fusion power plants run on water, and would generate more power than a city of humans.

The whole idea falls apart when you think about it. They would have to create energy in order to maintain the system.

The machines actually created the matrix (and the matrix within the matrix) to harvest, not power, but creativity.

You see, the humans in Zion spent their time creating technology which the real machines used outside of the fake "real world" within the true matrix. And as we all know, machines are no where near as creative as humans. They realized that humans are one of the greatest sources of creativity on the planet. And so they use us for such.

Not really. You have one race forced into subservience. The matrix was also completely controlled by the machines.

They wanted freedom or some such garbage.

Any sane thinking man would probably realize that staying subservient is the only option until the machines go about fixing crap a bit so that they can have plentiful solar power again.

The humans are screwed without them as they can only exist "down near the earths core, where it is still warm."

Given the option, and knowing what each decision means, I would take the blue pill. (stay in the Matrix)

Alternatively, I would take the red pill, download a shit ton of data/skills, become a neo/godlike being, delete winter, and then peacefully assimilate myself back into the Matrix and live happily. Morpheus can keep his tattered clothes and oatmeal dinners with "no spoons"

Not gonna lie, didn't pick that up.

Didn't like the latter 2 movies either, but either way, this is new to me.

The real world isn't real. It is merely a secondary Matrix construct. As the machines had to construct a realistic "reality" for humans to keep them from just dying, they had to construct something to satisfy their need for freedom. Every aspect of the "fake" Matrix (residual self image, bending the rules, etc.) can apply to the "real world" as well. Which is why if you're born in the real world, you have no plugs, just like how you have no plugs in the matrix. And how Neo's powers transfer into the "real world." He's not becoming some sort of God, he's just pulling some of his abilities from the other Matrix program with a little help from the robots. Neo is ultimately just a fancy antivirus program.

Taking the red pill isn't stupid. It's just the Matrix equivalent of double clicking on AVG.
Damn, Ninja'd.

Ever since I heard of this theory, I've been in complete agreeance with it. It really makes "Revolutions" seem a lot less.... well, shitty.

I was a member of the "everything after The Matrix sucks" camp, then I think it was my script teacher who just said "there is no reality" and told me to watch them again. At which point my mind broke and just about every flaw made perfect sense.
It made me feel the same way - for quite a while, Neo's new "powers" in Revolutions seemed like such a ridiculous cop-out simply added to the movies as a means to conclude the story.... in the context of the original story, it made absoloutely no sense and just struck me as painfully lazy story-writing. Frankly, I had a few issues with the story in Revolutions, but that aspect pissed me off to no end. However, when I heard that new theory, watching "Revolutions" wasn't so painful anymore. It's not a perfect movie, but at least it's interesting.

well first of all, the blue pill is the one that makes you wake up in your bed and forget that it ever happened. The red pill is the one that takes you out of the matrix. Though this scene brings up a few mental quandaries for me as well. If neo is the only hope for humanity, why would they even offer him the blue pill? Could the blue pill have done the same thing as the red pill? Why did neo take either pill? A strange man with some possible mental instabilities who you just met is offering you pills, and you trust him enough to take one? Or, inversely, DUDE, FREE PILLS! Why didn't he take 'em both? That shit would do craazy things man.

Don't forget though, before he woke up, he didn't know what the real world was like. Maybe he was expecting happiness and rainbows, and when he saw the shithole it was, he thought to himself "Awwwwww fuuuuuuuuuuuu--!"
