Consoles don't have the power to render 4 different players at one time due to high resource requirements for games nowadays.

Yeah, I miss 4-player split-screen too...and I found it ironic that four-player split screen disappeared just in time for a large number of people to have TV's large enough to stop you getting long term eye strain problems from it.

I mean I remember back in the day playing Goldeneye split screen on 18" and 20" tv's. And now that huge HD flat screens are everywhere, there is no room for it. And I miss being able to throw things at people while playing with them...it's nice to be able to smack teh foul-mouthed fucker who just pwned you form behind.

I don't know. Coach Co-op in general is the one of the main reasons I give for being a console gamer and I you just can't seem to get it all that much anymore, let alone with 4 players.

Wait!?
I played with my brothers yesterday on the same tv screen. This is why I love Halo. They are the only ones that care about it.

simple, it dissapeared with the new generation of consoles, with most multiplayer gaming being pushed towards the online gaming, PS2/XBOX had plenty of splitscreen games to play (TS1/2/3, Serious Sam games had co-op, etc) however nowadays its a real bas#!$% to get it, i think CoD have it, aswell as some other shooters(OFP should have had it imho, they set themselves up with 4 men squads), not sure about sports/racing games, not my genre.

With all consoles connect to the internet today. It is far easier to play online and have the whole T.V. to yourself or have a system link session. Although I do miss the fun of playing 4 player Golden Eye on a 12 inch T.V. (Possibly the reason I'm wearing glasses today).

Four people playing split screen off one copy is three people not buying the game. Sadly, this is how the marketing departments think.

To play online, all the people playing have to have bought a copy. To play multiplayer offline, only one person needs to have bought it.

Because we can play a four player private match on our own Xboxs, in our own homes, on our own sofas and we don't have to spend twenty minutes walking around the corner to somebody else's house.

what if everyone you know HAS the disc, and then you go over to your friends house and it turns out you guys wanna play the same game at the same time?

there's also the fact that i have a family of 5 and we wanna play at the same time but CAN'T because games like Left 4 Dead and Halo 3: ODST don't have 4-player co-op, i also have friends over often, so that further increases my problems :(

I don't know, but it ticks me off. When I can't play a game with the people sitting on the couch with me, something's gone horribly wrong.

Apparently developers think we have very few friends.

They would rather have 4 people buy the game, instead of 1 person. That's all.

Developers and marketing departments really only care about entertaining you, up to the point it makes them money. They won't do a single thing to please you unless it makes them money. Sound business principle, yet frightening new standard in the corporate gaming world.
