Good morning/ afternoon/ evening/ what the hell are you still doing awake?!, fellow escapists. My name is Noa, i'm 18 years old and could really use some advice about what to do next with my life. I won't bore you with the excruciatingly long details, so i'll try to sum up my situation in a few paragraphs as best I can. I was born and raised in Israel to immigrant parents who both came here in their mid-twenties (My mom is from the US and dad is from Australia). Since I grew up in an English speaking household I am by far more comfortable expressing myself in English. Ever since I can remember I've known that I would leave Israel given the opportunity, I've been preparing for it my entire life and now that the day has come my big dilemma is where to go.

I suppose I should clarify a bit about what I'd like to do with my life. Both of my parents are musicians and it's a field that I would love to look into. I played the drums for a few years but when it started to wreck my hearing I started playing the guitar. At the moment practicing a few hours a day and reaching a high level of playing is at the top of my priority list. Currently I'm not thinking about education but I might consider studying social sciences down the line as it's a field that has always interested me. At the moment though I'm just happy to be out of high school, dedicating time to something I love doing instead of racing for high grades in irrelevant subjects.

During my time after high school I've managed to save up approximately 5000$ working in a restaurant, to help me start out. I imagine that for the time being I will try to find another full time job waitressing or in retail.

In terms of options i'm looking at The US, Australia and Britain.
I have a lot of family in the US who I could stay with. While living with family could be great in terms of helping me get adapted and initially feeling like less of a stranger, i'm afraid that they might end up trying to take control over my life. Aside from a bit of family and some family friends in London and Sydney that I could stay with until I found a job and an apartment I don't have much in terms of family elsewhere.

So fellow escapists, being the big multinational community that you are, tell me about where you live. what's your culture like? How is the low income job climate? I know that the economical situation in America is pretty miserable but I'd really like to hear firsthand about what it's like. I'd really appreciate any advice or stories of your experiences in your country.

Last but not least, please don't mistake this for some youthful rebellion. I love my family and friends and they will make leaving incredibly hard, but I'm determined to get away from this country as soon as possible.

Jobs are scarce everywhere, though if you don't mind keeping a very open mind about what you want to do London is a good bet for low end jobs. However, it's a very expensive place to live and you'd probably only be able to rent a single room from someone, rather than a whole apartment.

But Britain is good for culture. Someone once told me that it's rare to see such a small place develop such different cultures in each region. You've got the 4 countries, and each of those breaks down into regional areas with different experiences, and it's fairly easy to just do one or two day trips to anywhere you wanted to visit.

I'm not saying you shouldn't visit the other places, they'd be great too, but I'd imagine Britain from an outside perspective is incredible.
