Personally i've always used violent games as a medium to vent anger and frustration. In fact if i didn't have some of the games i have i'd probably be in jail now for murdering all my middle school bullies(it was that bad).On top of that i've played some violent games that are so,lack of a better word, pretty that it help calm me down.hell if anything violent video games are having an opposite effect on people then what so adults are saying, making people less violent and likely to kill, jack a car,or anything else horrible. There are a few cases where kids under the age of 8 shouldn't be given one of these games, like GTA or Saints Row, because at that age kids easily copy what they see/do on a game. I didn' get my first rated M game till i was 12 and i can be described as "normal" by alot of people.
So what i'm trying to ask is,Where would you be without violence in Video Games?

EDIT:by "no violent video games" i mean any game with mindless violence a kid could copy in the real world.

Where would I be without violent games? Good question. I'd probably be searching Ebay for a copy of Mortal Kombat.

Without violent video games, I doubt video games ever would have really taken off. Technically, even Mario games have violence. You're killing goombas and turtles all the time. In the end, violent videogames helped the medium reach further then just a couple families with home consoles to a much wider audience. Where would we be without DOOM for instance? The final fantasy series and mortal kombat series all revolve around killing things, so aren't they violent? There goes a the majority of mainstream RPG and fighting games if those weren't around.

That's my opinion at least. Technically, all videogames revolve around some violence. Hell, even kids' television shows have a lot of violence if you think about it.

likely in the state pen. They have always been my venting process, even those with consequences for being evil, even if not very violent, like black and white. Games like saint's row, mafia, GTA and prototype have kept me from going off on my boss or beating that moron at the service counter.

I'd probably be institutionalized. Everyone needs some outlet for venting their frustrations, and I'm not really physically built for sports or wrestling. Video games are my solace, violent ones doubly so. Of course, I'd be in really deep crap if they took away all the overly happy games instead. No more Locoroco or Katamari Damacy?! *Murders the bureaucrats who made such a stupid decision*

If not for violent video games I'd be in Washington serving as a member of the Senate or House (believe it or not I used to be a Senate page for our Senator and he wanted me to run when I got old enough) but thankfully video games spared me that miserable existance. Ok, not really, I didn't run because I enjoyed wrestling too much to quit.

In other words, violent video games haven't affected me any more than any other hobby I have. I never really got into too many fights (well, real fights anyway lol), I never stole from anyone, I never got addicted to drugs or alchohol, I got an education, I lived out my dreams and I have a loving family and friends. I guess I'm just the exception to the rule that says all people who play violent video games end up violent, drug addicted losers who spend their time huddled in a basement picking their zits and eating cheetos. Yeah, I must be the only one not like that.

Video games do make an excellent release for anger. Here's how my Middle school years played out.
W/video games

Bully: Hey nerd, do you have any +12 Acid Arrows?
Me: Go eff yourself.

Now here's the same conversation if I wasn't playing Mortal Kombat back then.
w/o video games

Bully: Hey nerd, do you have any +12 Acid Arrows?
Me: No, but I do have this +3 Razor of slashing *Proceed to sliting some throats*
