[HEADING=2]Which is the best UK county?[/HEADING]

Good evening my playthings. Inspired by our lord and saviour Barbas, I come before you today with a simple question. What is the best county of the United Kingdom? Answer carefully, for there are many pitfalls along the way. Urban or rural? North or south? England or the rest? The choice is yours.

My answer can only be Dorset, archaically known as Dorsetshire. The home of cider, cows and eh, Dorset knob biscuits, Dorset has some of the most beautiful countryside and coast in the country:

The Dorset independence movement may be some way behind it's Scottish counterpart but one day we still stand triumphant with our flags and eh, chickens, free of the yoke of grockle oppression.

Onward Dorsetshire!

How about you Escapists?

Lincolnshire. It's got all the beauty of the South, at about half the price. People are nicer too. Not to mention the historical and cultural significance of Lincoln as a city (Just don't look at Boston... or Grantham... or Slea-HEY GET BACK IN THE BOX SLEAFORD!)

Also, nobody from Lincolnshire is really up themselves about being from Lincolnshire, unlike another, bordering county I could mention...

I'll go with Lanarkshire, just because Glasgow hooligans. The pictures you linked were very pretty JoJo, but how are Dorsetshire's hooligans? The real question of the thread should be 'which UK county has the best hooligans?'

I'll be honest, our hooligans here are really second rate, haven't even got a decent football team for them to dish out violence for (sorry AFC Bournemouth!)

Roads are awful, I'll give you that, but that's pretty much been my experience of most of rural England. I live in Wiltshire now and it's even worse here. It's one of the larger counties so yeah, it can take a while to get from A to B, but I maintain the countryside is beautiful, particularly near the coast.

Now that's just not fair. The only place in England who's hooligans can hold a candle to Glasgow's is Stoke. :p

Would that neighbouring county begin with a Y by any chance?

Edit: My answer would be Cornwall or maybe Shropshire

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment. ;)

Sandford, yo! It reminds me of Cheers only in village form!

Other than that, Wales sounds nice... and the flag is bitchin'!

Somerset (oo arr, oo arr, ooo aye)!

Let me tell you why:
The best cider in the country (nay, the world!), it's not in the fucking North, cheddar cheese, Bristol (voted the best city to live in the UK), nuclear power, Glastonbury and the most important contribution to culture the world has ever seen:
The goddamned WURZELS.

As a Celtic supporter and Stoke-on-Trent born and bred, I second this motion.

Incidentally, Staffordshire's the best county.

Because it has Stoke in it.

I thought you said "country" at first, and I was just about ready to say "WAAAALLLLLLEEEEEEESS".

But to be honest, the nicest county I've ever been to is Cornwall. I am not much of a traveller though, I've only really been to Nottingham, London, Cornwall and Pembrokeshire. I don't really count anything closer than Swansea or Bristol as "travelling" because they're fairly close.

Not sure about best cider in the world, but it's up there. Like, really up there. I kinda want to go to Somerset just so I can have a better taste of the local cider.

Pembrokeshire! There is basically no one there, but there are some nice beaches. But it's mostly the lack of people that makes it nice to visit.

Hampshire, obviously. As Wikipedia says: "Hampshire is notable for housing the birthplaces of the Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force."
And a load of other things.
Basically, Orkz Hampshire is da biggest and da strongest. Despite not being the biggest county. And probably not having the most military forces.
But it's cool.
Dorset is also nice. I go through it on the way to Devon for holidays sometimes.

Well, the Beatles are from Liverpool which wikipedia tells me is in a county called Merseyside. But that's a dumb name, so I'm gonna go with Warwickshire because it sounds cool. Also it gave us yahtzee and without him this website would have fallen into obscurity years ago.

Yorkshire, some of the most unspoiled areas in the UK, rural and beautiful to look at with little hamlets and villages dotted around.

I've lived in quite a few places over the years, but Cumbria is where I've decided to put down roots.

As a Liverpudlian I must respond to you appropriately..."FUK OFF YOU FUKIN NOB'ED".

Now that introductions are over, Merseyside is called so because the river Mersey runs through it. Don't like the name? Fair enough. But do visit the place as its music scene is as vibrant as ever and you'll be treated to a city with a rich history whole range restaurants/cafes/shops of varying cultures. So long as you don't mind the accent and the occasional whiff of weed that permeates areas in the city.
