Which Minecraft Server....(Minecraft's or Bukkit's)

I am trying to make a server for myself, friends, and some others in my schools gaming club, and I can't decide between using Minecraft's Server program or using the Bukkit server.

Can you guys fill me in with pro's and con's please?

I actually have no idea what a Bukkit server is, but I run a small MC server, and as long as you have a good router, good PC and good connection, it should do you fine.

You'll probably need to find out how to open your ports, however, if you don't already.
There's a website that will run through exactly what you need to do to open them for a Minecraft server, but I can't remember the URL right now.

I've gotten all the port stuff worked out. I just can't seem to decide which ones worth investing the time in. I don't want to choose one, then a month into it switch servers and have the whole world remade....unless I can use both? Is it possible they can both read the same "World" file?
