Absolutely love god of war, absolutely dont have a ps3. So whats a good replacement?

Specifically what I love about god of war is the epic, giant boss fights and the combat system. The lore/storyline appeals to me too, but aware that a game that fulfilled this too would just be a clone.

Appreciate any detail you can put into recommendations and why you loved them, but no problem if anyone just gives a list of games I should look into.

Much love.

Bayonetta
Seriously.
It's really weird and hyper-sexualized to a point of silliness, but the combat is awesome and the boss fights are HUGE
If you like good hack-n-slash games, you must try it

Dante's Inferno or Castlevania: Lords of Shadows.

The first more than the latter though. Both have similar gameplay and a similar sense of epic scale to God of War.

Bayonetta, Castlevania: Lord of Shadows, and Dante's Inferno are all hack n' slash games in the vein of God of War. The first is sublime in its own right (if perhaps more like Dante's Inferno than God of War), Castlevania more than competent, and Dante's Inferno a blatant uninspired rip-off that'll nonetheless serve your purpose of a similar combat system and a fair few giant boss fights.

Bayonetta, Dante's Inferno, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and Darksiders.

All of these games have demos, too!

I would have to say either Dante's Inferno (if you wish to go on a theological rampage of revenge, it's pretty much just God of War: Christian edition) or Splatterhouse (if you're just after the sheer feeling of badassery that comes from literally evicerating everything that has less than a toupee worth of bodily hair, it can be crushingly difficult at times but some people love a challange, also, Jim Cummings as the mask is hilarious).

To be fair, people who've said Bayonetta should probably remember that it is actually closer to Devil May Cry than God of War (in fact, I'd go as far as to say it's exactly the same from what I played in the demo). Now Devil May Cry was also a good game but it is noticably different from God of War so it may not exactly be what the OP was looking for.

thanks for the responses people. I'd never heard of dante's inferno before, and I've watched some video reviews now and it looks right up my alley. Castlevania too, though because its relatively new its still quite pricey, and in my experience these type of games come right down in price once people complete them and trade them in. As an example, bayonetta is currently selling for £6, which seems a steal.

Talking about bayonetta (and its related game according to you lot, Devil May Cry), does its unique japanese style make it feel like a totally different action game to say God of War, or is it mainly a matter of aesthetics, and at its core just another great example of the same genre?

Thanks again!

The main difference is just the visuals. The gameplay is much like God of War once you look past the unnaturally-proportioned and overly-sexualised appearence of the main character. Insane, fast-paced but deeply complex combat system and ludicrous boss fights that never fail to make you go "holy shit..."

trust me, if you like God of War then playing Bayonetta, or indeed any of the others suggested here, will be right up your alley. Guaranteed.

It actually feels exactly the same as God Of War to play, right down to the way the camera moves. Good game all the same.

If you have no care for the story then Ninja Gaiden 2,great combat with a B-movie plot, tons of fun in the simple yet deep combat plus plenty of weapons to dick about with.
