Aparently, former senator Chris Dodd, unwittingly admited to bribery on Fox news.

?Those who count on quote ?Hollywood? for support need to understand that this industry is watching very carefully who?s going to stand up for them when their job is at stake. Don?t ask me to write a check for you when you think your job is at risk and then don?t pay any attention to me when my job is at stake,?

I think it really is time for an in-depth investigation to happen, this a blatant abuse of power, and its high time people like this were brought down from their ivory towers.

Here is a link to the White House petition.

Also, apparently this isnt the first time the white house has been petitioned to investigate Dodd.

Hopefully this will lead to a pretty interesting debate around redefining where lobbying ends and bribery begins.

Pretty much you sum up how I feel about this whole mess. They should go after him for what he said, it's pretty admitting to bribery. Things like this drive me mad and it's damn time something like this to happen.

I'd like to see him try and explain that whole qoute away....

To all US Citizen, please feel free to sign the White House petition, it only needs 5k more signatures for them to take into consideration, going over the 100k mark will light a fire under them, going over the 1M mark will force them to do it, or face the consecuences.

This shit is why there is a cap on donations to political parties in the UK :p

I hope he gets a review and the MPAA gets slated. Especially since its hardly uncommon knowledge that stuff like this happens in the US. Why would people donate such hug sums of money if not for preferential treatment.

Sadly, I'm Canadian, so I can't do shit about this.

But if I was, I would sign that thing in a heartbeat. This guy should be made an example of.

I actually signed that yesterday. Even if Obama doesn't do anything I think it's important to send a message to these plutocrats that we're paying attention and we don't like what we're seeing.

Nothing's going to happen unfortunately, they'll most likely play the "we can't comment on individual cases" card. Then there will be outrage for a few days, and everyone will forget about it.

Such is the internet.

I move for a more black and white divide between lobbying and bribery. I think every lobbiest should ask themselves these question;

1. Are you voicing your concerns as an industry representative on legislation which could affect said industry, while providing information you feel is supports your stance to policitians so that they can make informed decisions of legislation?

If you answered yes then you are a lobbying policitians.

2. Are you doing any of the following to help enact legislation to your desires?

- directly giving money or gifts to politicians in order to gain preferential treatment.
- donating money to election campaigns or other political endevours hoping to be given special treatment in turn.
- offering jobs/holiday/special perks etc to politicians or family & firends of politicians in order to curry favour with them.

If you can answer yes to any of the above you are attempting to bribe politicians.

I wanna sign this gosh darn petition, but I don't really wanna join a website to do this one thing and then never again. Is there another way? I would love it if there's another way. Chris Dodd needs to be taken down a notch!

So one of the guys behind SOPA/PIPA is actually involved in something worse than piracy?

I would call that ironic, but most people here had been suspecting that sort of thing already.

Aye, didn't everyone scream bribery when they started saying that they didn't want experts coming in?

Still, to everyone else here who is actually American, I feel bad for you, your system actually seems to be worse than the UK's right now, which is pretty impressive.

Chris Dodd? Wasn't he the asshole who complained about all those sites that went dark for 24 hours, calling it "an abuse of power"? That shit is priceless, yo. Man should get his own sitcom. His catchphrase could be:"It's only abuse of power if I didn't do it."[cue laughtrack]

I'm just getting really sad about the internet lately. I've heard there's an alternative internet or something. Should we just start switching over to backups? Yes, I'm being overly pessimistc, but my faith in people the legal system is pretty low.
