Who do you think is the most evil character ever?

The question is fairly straightforward; Who do you think is the most evil character ever? They don't necessarily have to be a villain, and they can be from any medium (film/t.v.books/comics etc.)

In my personal opinion, Barnes from 'Platoon', Frank Costello from 'The Departed' and General Nikolai Alexandroich Zakharov from 'The Punisher MAX (Man of Stone specifically) are among the most evil characters I've seen to date.

I think you need to clarify the title of this thread, lest this thread be filled with hundreds of Adolf Hilters and George Bushes. At first it seems to refer to real people, not fictional characters.

In other news (since I just came from a Disney thread), I'm going to have to say Scar from the Lion King. He kills his brother, and tells his nephew that it's his fault, causing him to spiral into depression and run away for the rest of his childhood. Seriously. What an asshole.

I thought Barnes was more of an asshole then evil. He only cared about the ends and not the means and was willing to kill anybody who stood in his way of "victory".

His general behavior towards his subordinates, Junior in particular, could be attributed to assholery, but his actions in the village and towards Elias push him toward evil.

And earlier, I forgot to mention another evil, despicable character. Vern Schillinger from Oz. He was, in my opinion, one of the worst inmates in the entire show so far (I still have to watch season six) and that is saying something.

Light from Deathnote was pretty insanely evil by the end. What began as a desire to right wrongs in the world became twisted, and the power given to him corrupted him, until by the end he pretty much just wanted to be a god. It was all the more unnerving because even at this stage he believed he was doing the right thing, and because we actually got to see his decline into madness.

But then again, Lucien Fairfax shot my dog. I think that wins out in the end.

As completely chaotic evil as that ruthless mountain of a man is... I find Cersei Lannister to be even worse. Neither have a single redeeming quality in my eyes, but at least Gregor is just a big dumb beast. Cersei is the kind of lawful evil that invents excuses for itself while it causes the deaths of tens of thousands.
