to make it clear, this thread isn't meant as a rant against videos games being too expensive or dlc prices or anything like that. please let's not turn it into that. This is just to see how many people here do the same thing.

unless the game is a nintendo first party title, it seems that these days if you wait a bit, games fall in prices drastically.

then there is also the fact that companies these days release a "game of the year" or ultimate" edition of their game a year or so after, it makes it hard to fork over dough for the vanilla edition.

the last game i bought at full price was yakuza 4. after that every single game i have bought and will buy must be under 40 bucks.

so share your thoughts, and whether you will make an exception for a certain game and get it on release day.

If I support the dev I buy on release. It's hard for me to decide on battlefield 3 because DICE rocks but the people at EA are being dicks.

If I feel I can afford it money- and timewise, I try to get my games on their release date. Mostly because I'm rather impatient and usually very excited about the games I decide to buy.

If I've been massively anticipating a game or it's come from a series or dev I've come to love then I make an effort to buy on release. There are plenty of titles I'll do without for months, but there's always 4 or 5 a year that I want to get on day one.

interesting point about supporting developers. that was the reason i got yakuza 4 for full price, because sega would not have kept releasing the games outside of japan if they weren't selling enough.

Since I got into steam a year ago I have too many games to play and so don't need to buy new games anymore, besides at the rate prices fall, as well as cheaper indie games that are still really good why should i shell out £40.00 for a game when i can wait and have plenty else to play?

I spend thousands on gaming a year, and I don't buy games on launch that are published by Ubisoft or EA.

Because supporting bad business practice doesn't help the industry.

I don't buy games on release because I simply don't have the money.
It does give me a chance to see the reviews so I'll know if it's worth it, though.

Skyrim I'll probably head out for on 11/11/11.

The only other games I've bought on release day were WoTLK and Cata WoW expansion packs. Though I don't play WoW anymore but I got alot of milage on em anyways.

Also gives me a chance to read a bunch of different reviews. Last time I rushed to get a game that had just been released I was stuck playing the dev version before having to restart the game after they turned it into the real version (2 guesses to guess the game I got :p).

I never get games on release. In fact, I haven't played a single game from this year yet. This is for two reasons:

1. I retro game a lot.

2. I am a tightwad.

If I'm really interested in a game, I don't want to wait six months to play it, I want it right now, I don't give a fuck about the cost.

I never have. I might buy it within a month or 2 of release, but that's usually the most and only if I have the money to afford it which I don't at the moment because I don't have a job.

I'm too lazy. And because I'm generally not too excited for many game releases. I mean, some great games are being released all the time. But I can't see myself getting excited enough to buy on release.

The most recent game I bought on release, was From Dust. Massive disappointment there. And I don't see another game on any horizon that I'll buy on release. Even Skyrim, I can't wait for it. But I don't feel as excited as I should.
