Who makes the better villain? Men or women? Or rather, who do you love to hate more?

So I was reading the Fairy Tail manga all caught up on the character arc and there's a current chick antagonist that I want to murder because she has ALL MY HATRED at the moment.

And that's when I started thinking and remembering stuff. And lots of wondering? So now I'm just asking you people.

Title is self-explanatory, it is. Let's hear your thoughts.

Feel free to give examples or whatever.

EDIT: I'm just going to apologize for making this topic seem like something I never intended. And put this up there:

Hm... reading the replies, I'm thinking I might have worded my Title improperly. Or didn't explain myself.

So let me try again.

First off: think of it in terms of the second question in the title. Who do you find that you love to hate more when it comes to rooting for the heroes to win?

In particular, when you have two villains of the opposite sex working together, which one do you find gets your ire going?

Is how you end a post when you want the world to know you are a crazy person....

On Topic....

I prefer male villains .... women look a bit odd when they twirl their moustache.

Its a joke, lighten up :)
Ahhh, you're new.

I was also joking. I don't make very many serious posts (as my post history shows, but you're new I won't bring out the cage and cattle prod). I just usually drop the odd silly comment and move along.

Not sure really since I don't think there is much of a difference between the gender when it come to being villainy. Still I love the character Juri Han from Street fighter for her malice but playful personality and on the other hand I like Dr Doom also.

Depends on the character overall rather than that particular characters gender.

But looking at the gender aspect specifically- I can see myself "loving to hate" a female villain more than a male one, as with a male villain i somehow feel it would be easier for me to hold them in pure contempt. Probably because i'm a hetrosexual male. That said, its not often you actually come across female villains in the media.

Well, I did loath Winona Ryder's character in The Crucible... But that might also have been because I just sorta hate Winona Ryder anyway.

I guess, the villains I love to hate more are the pathetic cowardly ones (see The Crucible). That's why I think many people hate Joffrey from Game of Thrones so much. It's not just that he's a vicious bastard, it's that he's a vicious bastard only because he's a spoiled little shit who wouldn't survive on his own for a day if he wasn't born into wealth.

Yeah, fuck bitches.

I mean, when you think about it, aren't ALL women villains.

I lol'd, and I agree with your point. I've yet to see a female villain that I thought was good. Male villains seem to be more commonplace and well-developed.

You wouldn't be talking about the incredible sexy and great character that is Minerva!

A good villain (as everybody else seems to have said) can be either gender. That being said though, there are more male villains who I hate than female ones. Honestly though, I think the best villains aren't even human; I'm tired of being made to murder my fellow human being when there are countless monstrosities from across the veil of time and space. Or just more demons from Hell.

[sub][sub](preemptive apology for any comic info I got wrong by the way...or you can stop here and miss out on me potentially making an ass of myself)[/sub][/sub]

Now that I think about it, Males. How often do male villains get retooled into anti-heroes as opposed to their female counterparts? Venom, Deathstroke (Slade) and, Deadpool are the first to come to mind. As for women/female villains we have Catwoman, Harley Quinn (apparently), Black Cat, Electra (she was a villain at first right?), Rogue and, Emma Frost off the top of my head. I guess that can be chalked up to the writers though...yeah ya know what lets just say writers and be done with it. Someone paid Frank Miller to make The Goddamn Batman after all...and someone else paid to have Roy Harper's daughter killed and retconned out of existence...and someone else paid Kevin Smith to write a Black Cat story that took 4 books to basically say "rape is bad"...I can't help but think most of these writers are Men and so it looks like Men have my vote...freaking Men.

This is all down to the ability of the actor and the quality of the writing dude. Nothin' more to it.

This might sound a bit sexist, but I'd say male villains, because I find it hard to find a woman threatening.

Not to say that there aren't women who I'd feel threatened by in real life, but you rarely see female villains in media who are built like brick shithouses.
