So I just started watching MLP:FIM and it reminded me of another awesome little girl's cartoon from back in my day: Power Puff Girls. I used to love that show when I was a kid, and I got all kinds of Hell for it in school. So, anyone else watch a show you should have been embarrassed about when you were a kid? Power Puff Girls in particular?

You should not be embarrassed to like the Powerpuff Girls or My Little Pony.

Both are awesome.

PPG was a hell of a lot more mature than MLP:FiM is. Him is possibly the scariest villain ever in what is ostensibly a kids cartoon
Hell ya dude. A transgender supernatural being who may or may not be satan himself? That voice still haunts my nightmares.

Define "mature" and why it is important.
um this is just me, but theres two kinds of mature, the good kind and the bad kind.
Bad kind: thinks everything that is animated, colorful or lightheart is kids only, whether or not the things in question is or is not.
Good kind: respect things based on content, not how it looks.

I believe you'll find significant overlap between FiM and PPG fans. I certainly watched Powerpuff Girls as a kid, and it never actually occurred to me that it was supposed to be a girls' show. I mean seriously, that show was so violent I still can't believe anyone would make fun of you for it.

I always felt they messed up a bit with Him. For the longest time, I couldn't figure out why they'd have the devil Himself be such an ineffective villain. Then I saw his actual introductory episodes. He was a big deal at first. I mean they were fighting Satan and it was an appropriate challenge. Then later he's just another Tuesday afternoon for the PPG.

Personally, I think Discord is the single greatest kid's cartoon villain ever, but Him's downright creepiness and drop of a hat mood swings are certainly up there.

I take it you already know that Lauren Faust (creator of MLP:FiM) is Craig McCracken (creator of PPG) wife?
OT- Well PPG were more accepted back in my time so I had no problem converse my mate (former) about it. I was told that even grown up guys watch it aswell.
As for a show I should be embarrassed for watching it, I guess that would be Sailor Moon and Totally Spies (althought I only watch both shows when I am bored). I did however didn't tell people I watch those shows.

For a show targeted at little girls, I remeber it having a lot of action, every episode of it ends with the Power Puff Girls beating up the villian of the week. I'm pretty sure you could reskin it as any number of kids action shows and it would be very similar.

Strangly I've never heard girls talk about this show, while a lot of male friends have seen and enjoyed it. It's not like it was a girly show, besides the main characters. Anyway, I remember watching and enjoying it as a kid and not being ashamed.

A show I'm slighly emmbarrsed about watching though now is cougar town, even though it isn't a kids show, it started out billed as a show targeted towards females even though now it's an ensemble comedy, even still I'll talk about it if it comes up, but i won't make any effort to bring it up.

I admittedly used to watch quite a lot of it when I was a kid.

It never striked me as only for girls though despite it's premise, unlike my little pony. Manly because of the creepy "nightmare fuel" villains, and all of the blood, and violence. Come to think of it, it's quite amazing how much they got away with in that show.

I preferred Dexter's Lab though.

Please, do not even compare My Little Pony to Powerpuff Girls.

That's like comparing the latest Duke Nukem to Half Life 2, or Dungeon and Dragons (movie) to Lord of the Rings.

You know both those shows had the same Producer, right?
No. They didn't. I'm getting slightly sick of seeing Faust get all the praise for shows like PPG and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. She didn't create or produce them, her husband did. She may have had an influence, but please quit showering her with praise for them. Praise her husband, Craig McCracken, instead.

Did you know the creator of Power Puff Girls also made My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic? Anyway, I loved this show as a kid. Blossom was my favorite and I was really pissed when she got last in the PPG character polls.

My true passion at that time was Dexter's Laboratory. It was a fucking awesome show and I was able to do a great Dexter impression, voice and accent and all. That or Bill Nye the Science Guy
