Because this never saw the light of day, but man I say the Star Wars franchise dodged a bullet because this might have ended up being even worse than the Star Wars Prequels AND the Holiday Special combined:

Jeez and to this day it still the most unfunny thing I have ever seen.

Basically this was made by the guys that did Robot Chicken with Seth Green and Seth Macfarlane, this show is basically Robot Chicken Star Wars Special...the Series...but for kids.

Basically this could have been the Teen Titans Go! of Star Wars.

I forgot about this! I remember hearing about it when it was originally announced. So glad it doesn't exist in full. Though, was it cancelled before or after Disney bought Star Wars I wonder?

Edit: A quick google search tells me it was somewhere in the middle. Had 39 episodes already made but never released, which is interesting

Oh my goodness...

To be fair, this does look entertaining at least. I enjoyed it, but truth is, I laugh at pretty much anything. Even at Bordertown, and that was one bad show.

This looks quite fun actually.

...what? It's a Star Wars spinoff focused on humour. I pass one of those every time I end up in the library's children section.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one.
Yeah, my standards for entertainment of any kind (especially comedy) aren't high and while some of this is permeated with trying-too-hard, some of it was good, I thought.

Ben was the best character by far

Shame, I would have probably ironically liked it

Eh, it's far from the worst Star Wars-related thing that's come out. The Holiday Special still holds that title by a country mile. Detours looks like the kind of vapid yet ultimately harmless entertainment that you'd see bored kids watching at daycares.

While the vast majority of jokes fell flat, there were a few that at least elicited a chuckle out of me ("Vader! Nothing says 'vacation over' quite like seeing you again"). Also, that critique of Padme was spot-on.

It was by the same people who did Robot Chicken, so I probably would have liked it. Shame it was cancelled, like pretty much everything else Star Wars related after Disney bought the rights. Which I'm still a bit miffed about, but only because they sold the game rights to EA of all people, which means no more original or unique Star Wars game at all. Hell, bar Battlefront, they only other Star Wars games have been IAP infested mobile games. The films at least have been decent so far.

I watched Robot Chicken infrequently and liked some of it, but I never thought it was that good or that Seth Green was very funny. This looks lamer and is more limited. The blocky CG with the flat textures is also uglier than the stop motion.
Very early Robot Chicken like the first 2 seasons were alot funnier than later ones.

Here's the thing. I did not laughed at any single joke in the trailer.

And its not because its Stars Wars thats focused on Humour, Spaceballs did it will and its still one of my favorite comedies about Star Wars:

The jokes in Star Wars Detours are nowhere near the calibur of Spaceballs.

That was okay. I didn't even come close to laughing. If comedy doesn't make me laugh, it needs to be smart or charming, like the works of Jacques Tati and Chaplin. Robot Chicken is neither.
They have done slapstick that made me laugh:

I think the comedy of Robot Chicken gets 50% of its charm from the stop motion animation. They've had jokes fail to land for me before but I quite like it anyway. Detours though... That was kinda painful.

Few things are. Mel Brooks is amazing and the cast of his Spaceballs keep me coming back year after year. Its one of the few annual 'must watch' movies I have.

Yeah you're right. When Disney took over, they wanted the franchise to be more serious which Detour is not so they scraped it. I suppose it was thanks to Disney that we got Rebel instead.

OT- Yeah I kinda remember well I saw the trailer and forgot about it even past is supposely air date or sometime. It was only later when I read Star Wars link that I read the truth why it never got released.

Palpatine is the only good thing in this, and only cos he seems a direct port of robot chicken palpatine.

Everything else made me cringe so damned hard the arm rests of my chair got shattered.
