Seriously, I have no idea who this guy was. I only discovered Jon Stewart and Colbert after he dropped out, and the only thing I remember about him was those damn chain e-mails that I never read through.

But people are still talking about him, and since I'm too lazy to do the research, I'm going to turn to the escapist readers to help me understand just who this guy was. What his policies were, why he was so much better, and why he was such a hit with the internet community.

P.S: Lets say, for the sake of argument, that I am a completely neutral party with no liberal or conservative bias. Try and persuade me as to why I should have given this guy my vote.

He wanted to be presidents in the 08 election. He failed.
I think that's all you need to know about him.

All I know is that he's a Libertarian. I find I don't agree with them a lot of the time.

Ron Paul was a Libertarian, which means he believed in less government involvement in the lives of citizens.

He ran for the Republican nomination, but lost.

Some of his positions were: Pro-Life, Pro-Legalization of Marijuana, Return to the Gold Standard, No Bailouts, and Lower Taxes.

He's a well meaning person who either does not consistently apply his principles or maintains naive and misplaced faith in the use of politics to abolish politics.

I sympathize with the guy, especially because he's a knight-in-shining-armor by comparison. But his strategy is self-defeating and cannot bring about liberty. I don't know what his long term goals are toward the state- abolitionist or reformist. But if its the former, he is pursuing a ridiculous strategy. If it's the latter, I cannot support him.

He opposes federal regulation of marriage, as well as a number of other regulations, such as strict regulations on education, property, and guns.

He's big on states rights, against torture, against federal surveillance. He was initially for the War on Terror, like most of Congress, but even from the very beginning said the War alone wouldn't work.

Supports free trade.

Don't forget the large chunks of the internet that worshiped him, do not forget that at all.

Hmm...okay, my initial opinion of him stands. Hell, it applies even more, now (I didn't know about the pro-life position).

Didn't he try to get everyone to audit the Federal Reserve? If that is him, sounds like a decent guy.

He also makes an appearance in the movie Bruno.
