So all the dwarves for the up coming Hobbit film have been reveiled.

So what do you guys think? Personally, with the exception of Fili, who looks a little bit more elvish than dwarvish and not knowing whats going on with Oin's weapon, I think it looks amazing.

To me it looks like a bad photoshop, sorry

EDIT: I know they are the real thing, cause I know Aiden Turner is playing Kili it just looks bad to me.

I don't think they look too bad. I mean, sure, some of them look more like elves than dwarves, but other than that, they look fine to me.

Huh.

They look... they look slightly fake. Like incredibly well painted miniatures rather than actual actors. And some of them simply don't look dwarvish at all. [small](Bugger off, spellchecker, dwarvish is too a real word).[/small]

But the costume design looks quite fantastic, and the characters all look interesting and individual. Makes me think it's gonna be a much more fantastical film than LotR. Not saying that as a good or a bad thing, just as a comment.

it's not what I imagined, but in my mind, every dwarf looks like a slight variation of Gimli. I like these new dwarves, and the large amount of variation between them

My only criticisms are that Thorin looks much too young, and Fili and Kili don't look dwarf-ish enough.

The Thorin thing is the big one. I don't know if I'm mistaken--it's been a while since I've read the book--but isn't he supposed to have gray hair? I always thought of him as looking a lot more like Oin looks.

It's just looks like the heads have been really badly stuck onto tiny bodies, the first three are the worst and the last one is probably the best, but that's cause its zoomed in. I guess the heads just look too human sized to me. Disproportional is the word I'm looking for.

Can't remember myself, but I thought so as well.
Doesn't seem like a big deal, he looks like an old guy who looks good for his age...if that makes sense :p
Either way, they had to do something to make a few of them less traditionally stereotypical or it would too much Manly Beard for two movies.
And of course, they need a new Legolas for the group and it seems Mr Aiden Turner on the far right might be filling that roll (just from the look of him anyway).

But overall they look pretty damn good.

In defence of the age of Thorin, he is supposed to be about 200 years old at the time of the quest, considering Dwarves live, on average, 250 years, its possible that they don't start showing the age until near the end of their lives.

Looking good so far is what I think. Bombur looks exactly what I imagined :D

Only problem I'll have with this movie is that Swedens answer to Charlie Sheen is in it, oh how I loathe Mikael Persbrandt, he'd better not act like he usually does.

I'm glad Dwalin looks cool, he was always my favourite. I had an illustrated hobbit book which had an almost identical Balin and Dwalin with the red and green colourings respectively. He did wear a cool cloak all the time.

Hmm, I imagined them all to look less rugged. Brighter colours as well. But I must say that these folks do look very dwarfish, and I suppose that looking like that fits with the adventure they're undertaking.

Except for Fili and Kili, they just look too young. I mean they don't even have proper beards!

Bombur is pretty much spot-on though.

Somehow these characters don't look like they belong in the LotR universe.

I never read The Hobbit, maybe the story was a lot more tongue in cheek than Lord of the Rings. But seeing as it follows that very popular trilogy, you'd think they'd make it look more in tandem with the earlier movies.

And what's with the long haired guy in the third picture? Is he supposed to appeal to female audience members, or what? I always thought dwarves were a bit chunky and hairy regardless, even the women.

Well, the only dwarf to have ever appeared in person in the trilogy was Gimli, so we really don't have much to go off of regarding the actual look of a dwarf. We got a look at a whole shitload of dwarven architecture (and skeletons), but not much at dwarves themselves.

Personally, even going off of just the way Gimli looked, I think they would look quite at home in the LotR universe. Except for maybe Kili, who looks kinda like a prettyboy. But I would say, good job, overall.

Some of them don't look as if they should be dwarves. I'm kind of not liking this, but I probably won't mind once I watch the movie.

They're ok.

I think it's pretty clear what they're trying to do though; make sure all these characters look unique. That's why there's so many with short or no beards or characters that look less stocky than you'd expect.

If they'd made every character look like a traditional Dwarf it'd be like having 13 Gimli's running around.

I'm not sure the result is perfect but it makes sense.
