Hey fellow Escapists!

You know what's really great about some video games? The fact that they give us a Hero who we tend to develop a partnership with over the years. A partnership in terms of traversing the many obstacles presented to us through their eyes and in their shoes one level and life at a times.
A Hero whose personality is already set and ingrained within us, and depending on the series or franchise we get to watch said Hero develop over time or watch them continue on their merry way with each new video game release.

[HEADING=2]So who was your FIRST Video Game Hero?[/HEADING]

[HEADING=2]And who is your current favorite Hero?[/HEADING]

For me I'd have to say my first ever video game Hero has to be:

[HEADING=1]Megaman[/HEADING]

Just look at that little adorable android of walking death! Freaking loved Megaman ever since I was a kid! I could never get enough of the little Blue Bomber.

My current favorite Hero would have to be a tie between:

[HEADING=1]Dante[/HEADING]

Dante's a half-human, half-demon Demon Hunter who basically runs a shop for dealing with said Satanic Menaces via Semi Automatic Pistols, Ebony and Ivory and his signature Claymore Sword, Rebellion. He's a fun loving guy who just knows how to have fun dealing with these sort of issues in the most nonchalant fashion possible. Even taking multiple scythe wounds to his torso just to brush them off to display his sheer awesomeness. The guy's classy and despite this badassery he has one of the most cheesy personalities of all time, but it works for him simply because he's just all kinds of kick ass and is sincere in his goofiness.

[HEADING=1]& Viewtiful Joe[/HEADING]

Joe is every guy who loved anime, especially Super Sentai Action. But what makes Joe such an awesome Hero is that he's an average dude getting to live his dream of being a stylish, pose striking symbol of justice with his own style!
What kind of person wouldn't want that? He's similar to Dante in that while he may not take his responsibilities so seriously at first, he at least knows when to act and has an instilled sense of justice underneath his dorky personality and passionate love for all things action packed.

Plus he invented the word:
[HEADING=1]VIEWTIFUL[/HEADING]

What other Hero can claim that sort of goodness?!

I love both of these guys with an equal fervor specifically for the reasons that while they may be heroes they just simply know how to have fun doing their job, which entails delivering Ass Kickings by the hundreds on scales ranging from AWESOME to STYLIN' ALL ON YA BALLS!

First would probably be Cloud or Cid from FFVll. Both just generally pretty cool guys who I looked up to back in that day.

But as for my current... well, reluctant to use the word "hero", but okay.

It's Lee Goddamn motherfuck Everett. Love this man.

Hahahaha! We both post that our favorite heroes of today are both from The Walking Dead XD priceless!!

But yeah Lee is awesome overall too, he's probably more fleshed out then even the cast in The Walking Dead (the show that is).
o_O Uncanny. Yet, understandable.
But yeah, Clem is great too. To be honest, hardly any of the characters from the show or the comics can even compare to like, Ben, or Christa from the game.
Telltale did such a great job with that game.

Lee is just such a good character.

I'm pretty sure my first "hero" was either Zero from Megaman X or Sub-Zero (both with zero in the name...never noticed that before...)
Then later when I was like 10 it went to Gabe Logan from Syphon Filter to The Nemesis.
And my current Hero? Um....I'm 23, not really looking to video games for heroes anymore. I mean there are certain characters i defiantly love but...none I would call a hero.
But for the sake of the thread. The one character right now who I happen to like quite a bit...ummm....*shrugs* Kain, seeing how I have been rediscovering Legacy Of Kain throughout most of 2012 and now.

My first video game hero? That would be

[HEADING=1]Crash Motherfucking Bandicoot.[/HEADING]

Current favorite?

This little guy right here:

[HEADING=1]Vivi![/HEADING]

Yeah, I know he's technically not the MAIN protagonist of the game he comes from, but I like to think that he is one of them.

My first hero?

I grew up with lots of videogame heroes throughout NES and SNES. By the time PS1 came along, there was lots of new heroic sorts of people whom I've never really seen the likes of before. It was different, and although I enjoyed playing PS1 games a lot, there wasn't many 'heroes' that struck a chord with me.

Until MGS and Snake came along and changed how I felt about games and their heroes. He was the first character I could say I felt a real connection with. [/spoiler]

Current favorite hero? hmm... that's a toughie.

[spoiler]There's quite a few lately I enjoy.

I appreciate characters that can resonate emotionally with me.
[spoiler][img src='http://fronttowardsgamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/lee-everett.png'][/spoiler]

I enjoy characters who stand for something greater than themselves, and allows us to control how they develop and handle the events around them.
[spoiler][img src='http://www.extrahype.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Adam-Jensen2.jpg'][/spoiler]

And I enjoy characters who are undergoing deep internal turmoil, and experiencing their crumbling mentality first hand.
[spoiler][img src='http://www.heavemedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/spec-ops-3.jpg'][/spoiler]

Yes, I appreciate all manners of 'heroes'. But, I think most of all... I like heroes who are [i]entertaining[/i].

[spoiler][img src='http://www.original-gamer.com/og/images/chainsawlolli4.jpg'][/spoiler]

Sure, you can say she's the biggest cosplay bait ever created, 1-dimensional, has cringe-worthy lines. None of that really matters to me, because to me; she is just so damn entertaining and loveable. Her banter with Nick, constant upbeat attitude and sincerity is refreshing, and the perfect platform in which to experience this crazy ass game with.
Honorable shoutouts to: Classic Dante and Bayonetta
[/spoiler]

^Out of all those, it's really tough to pick a single favorite.

My first was Squall from FF VIII
Yeah, I know, he was an angsty emobitch. But so was I.
Yeah, he was the first "hero" I identified with.

My current favorite... hmm...
I think the Battle Mage from Orks must die!
He's funny, he loves his job.
If only he was massmurdering elves instead of Orks. He would be my alltime favorite

My first one has to be Mario
Then Samus, Fox and Link jumped along, I like some DonkeyKong games but not that much
I like loads of RPGs but none of the characters really make me feel the same way these guys do

Ah, for me there is only one choice for my first

Spyro wasn't my first game, but it sure is hell the one I played the most for a long time. Spyro's character, while not exactly brilliant, still outshines many modern protagonists in my eyes. Everything about it charmed me, even Moneybags, that alchemist in Gateway to Glimmer, it was fantastic. Then Enter the Dragonfly happened

Wouldn't really say I have a favourite from the more recent era though. If pressed, I'd agree with Caramel Frappe, perhaps the best character of this generation in my eyes.

FIRST HERO... PAC-MAN

I Had the PJ, the plush puppet and watched the TV Show while eating its cereals.
I'm old and to me the notion of a character in a video game was a new concept back then.
Before that you had Asteroid... a triangle shooting dots or... Pong, Arkanoid, Breakout, etc.
Therefore... nothing to related to.
Pac-Man had a great impact on my life. He made turn an interest in video games into a passion.

CURRENT HERO... COLE MACGRATH (Infamous)

COME ON! The guy shoots electricity and can throw cars at monsters.
How bad ass is that?!?!

Of my childhood - Jak & Daxter.

Great duo that's equal parts bad-ass (mostly Jak) and humorous (mostly Daxter) and 100% awesome to play as.

Now? Well, I don't really get attached to fictional characters anymore, but I guess I'd go with Lee Everett from TWD. One of the best-written video game characters (along with Clem, of course) I've ever seen, and I genuinely wanted to see his story develop. For me, that's not a common thing in any form of entertainment media.

My first ever was Mario. I now dislike him as a character; he is really bland with no interesting characteristics or weaknesses. Fittingly, this is exactly what Mario plays like in every game he's in.

My current hero is a childhood hero of mine as well, Protoman.EXE from Megaman Battle Network.

He's just...

SO

COOL!!!!!

My first video game hero is [HEADING=3]Solid Snake.[/HEADING]

Solid Snake. This guy is special to me, since he reminds me of my father, and well, he's a freakin' badass. He's still one of my favorite characters today.

My current video game hero is [HEADING=3]Sly Cooper.[/HEADING]

To me, he's what every hero should be: handsome, skilled, well-intentioned, and funny.

Bit of advice?
Stop watching it right now and play it yourself. You're robbing yourself of an amazing experience by watching a playthrough first.

Mine is good ol' Link, and it still is. Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was the very first game I ever tried to beat. Even today I'm struggling to finish some Zelda games.
