Donna Noble is by far my favorite. I don't really get why though. I should hate her. She had the potential to be the most annoying character ever, yet somehow it never goes that far.

pretty much all the ones from the new series. the ones from the older series seemed to all be whining girls that need protection and there only contribution was to scream at the enemies in fear or annoying little kids that seem to butt heads with everyone.

My favourite is Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart. I loved him because of his British stiff upper lip and the relationship he had with the third Doctor. I know that "technically" he might not be considered a "companion" as he never really travelled with the Doctor, but during the Doctor's exile on earth he helped him battle the Nestenes, the Daleks etc.

They are both strong women that bring interesting plot to the show, without the annoying "I want to boink the Doctor" factor of Rose and Martha.

Donna Comes in a close second I think, mainly for being a bad ass

Amy's up there for me at least in part because she's so fucking cute. Although there are a few that give her a run for her money:

Zoe Heriot for instance, got that cool sixties mod thing going on

I was also a huge fan of Tegan.

Alot of the companions were good ones, so it's really hard to say, but frankly I will have to go with the one elevated to a main character, Sarah Jane Smith, otherwise known as the late Elisabeth Sladen.
