I personally LOVE Wind Waker, I feel it's a VERY CLOSE 2nd behind Ocarina of Time for best Zelda game. But I'm curious as to why so many people dislike it.

Quite a lot of people like it actually, me included, it's more light-hearted but still a serious game. Only the sailing gets annoying after about 3 hours of it >.>

yeah, a lot of people feel that its crap compared to the other LOZ games or at least that it doesn't belong with the other games and stuff.

Many people complain about the ocean sailing and the art direction. I personally don't mind the ocean, and i loved the art style. I also loved the combat, it was so over the top and it fit the art style (look at twilight princess Link do the helm splitter.....how?) The only thing i hate is the barrel part at the start... on my second playthrough, i kept falling, and it took SO LONG!

There's bits that are annoying in Wind Waker. Gathering the triforce parts, for example, and as Carbonic Penguin said, the beginning bit is also irritating. The sailing can take a while, too. And the art-style made some Zelda fans eat their own eyes. These reasons are the ones that Zelda fans usually use to hate the game.

But I actually loved the sailing and the graphical style. I thought it was a good Zelda game; not the best, but still good.

I hated how Ganon looked, though.

I loved Wind Waker. Not as much as, say, Link's Awakening or Majora's Mask, but its still a great game, and one of the better games in the Legend of Zelda franchise.

I suppose some of the hate comes from the repetitive sailing, and I'm sure a lot of people didn't like the artistic style, but, personally, adored the art and the sailing was more calming than repetitive.

I enjoyed it, reason I bought a gamecube. My friend hates on it's art style because it's not Zelda looking, I enjoyed the lighter tone, It was kind of an anti-thesis to what Majora's Mask was. Sailing was a bit tedious but I had fun with it.

I loved it, even the sailing (but only so much at a time). The most common reason I heard from other people though, was that the art was too silly.

It was rather too short, and the difficulty (puzzle-wise) never really got rolling. All the puzzles were ones that you really didn't have to think about.
Sailing could get really tedious if you weren't in the mood for it.
Getting all the triforce pieces is a boring, tedious waste of time, made worse since you have to throw huge amounts of money at Tingle, who stopped being funny years ago.
The combat was fun, though, and I quite liked the story.

I think it was partly the change from simple 3D graphics to cell shading. People react badly to change if they love the original, even if the new version is equally good in its own way.

Also, the sailing was deemed repetitive, although I enjoyed the sights.

The only thing that made me dislike the game was Tingle. It's people like him that made me wish you could kill friendly NPCs.

I think you're wrong.
For me, it's my favourite zelda game (yes i liked it over Oot, go and cry, if you wish).
It was the phantom hourglass that I hated with a passion. Only zelda game i could never be f***ed to finish.

I just dislike the art style that they chose for it. It makes me not want to play it even though the game itself is fine.

I ask myself the same question?
I myself, find it amazing. i think the cell shading graphics works very well for the game. The gameplay, the story and the music is also awesome :)
The only thing that I found annoying, was the sailing. It was quite fun in the beginning, but then it just got boring.

I liked the inventive ways of learning new "songs" such as the dance move guy from the main island.

but many zelda fanboys that grew up on OoT couldnt accept that maybe nintendo wanted to trying something a bit different. hence they hated it.
