I just noticed while on my main profile page that I am somehow a Publisher's Club member except I never subscribed to it or paid any kind of money for it, not that I'm complaining but I find it strange. Anyone know why?

Kross(?) did it when he left. Everybody who'd posted in the last year and didn't have some level of infraction got it for free or something. Don't worry, someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

This is a known bug but thank you for notifying us. We will now takes steps to amend the issue - expect the Publisher's Club membership to be retracted within 3-5 days.

We would like to remind you that Publisher's Club membership is for life, so we have dispatched rabid ninja squirrel assassins to your location.

In reality, there was a...let's call it a technical hiccup when the tech team was suddenly sacked and somehow the majority of the forum members ended up with a PubClub membership.

So that's how you got it.

I've still dispatched the squirrel assassins, however.

Now that you have a Pub Club membership, you may as well put it to good use. Join us in the Wild West subforum sometime; we need new blood for our shitposts. We won't bite, honest...not until we've had our shots, anyway.

In all honesty, this "accident" was inadvertently one of the best advertisements for a Pub Club membership. I never bothered with it in the past, but now that I've experienced its perks I think I'll fork over the money when it's time to renew (assuming The Escapist is still around, that is).

Despite general belief to the contrary the $20 annual fee for Pub Club membership brought in a measly pittance for the site. This is a very important point to begin with.

When the Staff and most of the Tech Support personnel were sacked someone made a large majority of current members Pub Club members. It's doubtful that it was approved by the site's new owners but given that the new owners had just gotten rid of the very people who'd attend to such things there wouldn't be much they could do about it.

The REAL question is whether these free memberships will last in perpetuity or expire automatically after 365 days from the start.

Time will tell.
