What are you guys talking about? I was under the impression that every British teenager was like those kids in Clockwork orange.
Well go into Oldham on a Friday night an you'll soon find out.

I personally think that most teenagers now are pretty much the scum of society. Well they are around where I live anyway, kids like 13-14 years old getting carted into the clink because they're nicking all the time or doing the whole GBH thing. Most of the kids in town have been in juvie at least twice before they hit 18.

Plus they all carry knives because "They iz well 'ard." It's pathetic.

I like the 18 year olds that think they're adults. Sure you're legally an adult, but you probably don't have the necessary life experience yet. Hell, your brain isn't even fully developed.

well I'm assuming that your in America so naturally I'd be scared out of my FUCKING wits!
But however that is America and you are portrayed as THAT kind of person, however I'm an 18yo Irishman living in Australia so I'm expected to be drunk and throw a few bar stools around.

But all in all its the media's fault; remember all that crap about Mass Effect and the tiny amount of sex in it and the media's response to that?

I'd like to say that I'm a sensible young lad who has never fallen into these emo or goth or whatever stereotypes most teenagers seem to fall into but the truth is that I have. I think all teenagers of today have fallen into them at some time in the past but thats because we are all pretty stupid and want to belong in some social group. We act the way we do because other teenagers think we should and it's never nice being made fun of because you don't want to go and stab up pensioners.

Thankfuly most of us will grow out of it once life gives us some proper shit to sift through and we will stop caring about what music or clothes others are into because we will all be too busy trying to get enough money too pay rent and eat.

In every generational passing, there are two prevalent attitudes held by adults and teenagers

1) Adult: God, this kid's gonna screw the world up.
2) Child: Man, that guy really screwed this world up.

Both are inherently right.

Both are completely wrong.

Change is the result.

If I could without getting into trouble, I would put up the letter from "The Breakfast Club" in my band room. It would spur a very interesting discussion.

In The Wasps by Aristophanes, the older generation berates the younger one for their loose morals (things were so much better in 450 BC compared to 400 BC, in their day...), disrespect to the elderly and - get this - their music taste. Young people are new, scary and think in weird new ways, and are therefore universally berated. But don't sweat it, it was the same 2500 years ago so I doubt it's personal.
Have you seen No Country For Old Men? I love the way that movie approached this topic.
I was gonna check it out, but when I heard it got good review scores I got turned off it as - in my experience - movies that get good review scores seem to bore the shit out of me (with the exception of Wall E, The Dark Knight and Superbad). But hmm, maybe I should check it out, 'specially since - so I hear - Tommy Lee Jones be pimpin'...
Nah, you probably won't like it. Great film, but the jist of it is that Tommy Lee jones encounters a new era of drug trafficking. These criminals are far more brutal and sadistic than anything he has ever encountered and as a sheriff he just can't keep up with it anymore. Which poses the question, is he "losing it" or is the world just becoming more insane and more violent as time passes? Well, his father tells an anecdote of how his uncle brutally murdered and hung by the town he was sheriff of because he woudln't give a prisoner up to a bunch of vigilantes.

Point being, the world has always been a brutal place but memory and experiences are relative.

Old ladies are afraid of everything. But Teens? All they do is spout hate speach and smell bad. Sorry, but Xbox Live has only hurt your cause. The rest of you are probably fine.

I can't think of a time a soap portrayed a teen as a polite, well mannered person.
The polite ones always die first.

This really is the quote of the day, right here. Fantastic. Also, I'm not concerned with whether it was purposeful irony or not.
In the UK at least, you become a legal adult (ie, not a minor) when you hit 18. I don't count anyone as a teenager if they're 18/19. That's young adult/student age. Teenagers are 13-17.

Well, in my opinion anyway.
Sorry but that is incorrect. No matter the title if you are 13 to 19 then you ARE a teenager....hence the TEEN in the numbers name.
Exactly. Teenager is a state of mind, not a legal requirement. I don't care what age the government tells people they're "legal adults". To me there is absolutely no difference between a 19 and a 17 year old, except maybe a few more chin hairs. Maybe.

But, as was said, the word teen is right there in the name, if you don't accept the above.

OK, not really, but I'm nineteen and my job has essentially made me despise most teenagers. It's got to the point where I object to the presence of a considerable majority of them on principle.
I love this, I really do.

Welcome to the politics of separation. Everyone's invited, except chavs, queers, warties, hoodies, britneys, peggy preggers, pikeys, gangstas, and a dozen or so groups that I could name.

This is what happens when a society composed entirely of immigrants forgets its roots. Mayhem ensues.
That would be a valid argument if it weren't for the fact that the vast majority of people in those groups are young white boys who, quite often, are incredibly racist themselves. If only they knew more about Queen Elizabeth those kids would be whipped into shape...
LOL at the general point, but I don't think peggy preggers (fifteen year-old pregnant teenage girls) or britneys (do I really need to explain this one?) are young white boys.

That's the thing about separation though... you won't find many oppressed minorities combining forces, they're too busy warring with each other.

People fear me because I wear a hoodie, play violent videogames, and listen to rock/heavy metal. The Holy Avenger +16 probably doesn't help....

Honestly, People are afraid of everything. PROVE ME WRONG [/gauntlettoss]

Two words. THE NEWS. The reason we're so feared is cause you never hear about some 16 year old saving the environment or anything like because thats boring. It's always some dumbass stabbing another dumbass over some drugdeal or other handismackedness like that.

Probably because teens and adults seem to be separate all the time. I still talk and hang out with my parents & their friends and have no problems with them, but I know many kids who for some reason or another, completely ignore and don't talk to adults at all. I think it's a phase thing and usually isn't a problem.

Personally I'm more fond of the adults who paint all 13-19 year olds with the same brush.

Ehh, kids these days. No different to the youth of any generation, except we don't cane them or make them go up chimneys anymore, we just treat them like potential criminals one and all. I know what people will think of my children and grandchildren, I just wonder how they'll be treated.

You're telling me that the demographic of teenagers don't share similarities with one another?

If so, you're naive.
