Why can't we all get along like the bronies do?

yes an odd question but as I've come to see my friends becoming a part of the fandom and seeing them not spit vulgar harassment or demeaning others made me ask this... why dose it seem that the brony affect is a step in the right direction, have we gone down the hole to the point were we are back up again, can a cartoon make us want to be a better person?

i want to be a better person...and i think deep down we all do...

and i have a feeling that someone will post about the lesser part of the fandom...well...we love and tolerate them to...just like those not in the fandom....

so why can't we all get along?

Many bronies I've seen or met are needy attention whores. Not to say they are bad people or I don't approve, I watch the show myself.

Just saying don't set anyone on a pedestal. Maybe by luck or chosen ignorance you don't see the faults.

1stly, I would like to say not every brony get along like you may have said... I know I've met a few fans of the show who were a bit too hostile, so to say... But many bronies I do know, and even myself, are generally nice unless someone really poked the wrong button.

There are too many people who believe deeply in their opinions so much that they become either hostile to other opinions or believe theirs is a fact to a point where it harms others, directly or indirectly. (This can also be said with religion beliefs as well but I wont get into that)...

I've seen too many Bronies having long and vitriolic arguments to believe that the entire fandom is a bastion of tolerence and friendship at all times. We all want to better ourselves (unless we're actually stupid enough to think we're perfect as is) but we don't want to hear other people preaching to us how to act either.

Maybe someday we'll be mostly at peace like the Star Trek Federation or [insert example here] but at the moment we're all a bunch of impulsive, unique individuals who clash on a daily basis and it doesn't look like that's going to change soon.

I'll choose to respond to the thread title however:
- We can't get along because people are shit
- 'Bronies' are not always one big happy family, I sure hope I don't need to bring out, for example, the whole Alicorn Twilight Drama garbage to prove this point.

Ha ha, yeah, no...we're not that nice to each other. Granted, this fandom does seem to be a bit more friendly, nice, and all around good when held up to other fandoms, but oh man are there still problems.

Princess Molestia: This is a huge tumblr blog (and I admit, I find it highly amusing), and suddenly people started sending death threats and hateful messages to the creators. One blog I followed, another pony blog, posted how it was basically trash, and when fans of the blog tried to nicely counter the argument, the blogger turned on them and then started wondering why he/she was getting attacked for stating her opinion. You know, her opinion she stated by attacking someone else's work who hadn't done anything to her. It brought out a real ugly side of the blogger and I stopped following her because of it.

Twilight becoming an alicorn. Oh man, that was just funny to me. People were literally losing their minds over this. To me, I didn't care at all, but watching others post hateful messages about how the creators were ruining the show was disgusting and disheartening, because as you said, we tend to have a better image than most fandoms.

Clashes with fans. There have been so many stories about how the writers or artists for the show basically lose their temper because fans keep saying, "You can't do that! That's not how it works in this fanfiction!" One of the authors of the comics recently posted a blog about just that: fans were upset about details in the stories because said details weren't matching up with what fans had established in their own minds. The sheer arrogance and entitlement of that baffled me.

So yeah, we're not nearly as perfect as we like to think we are. I, for one, am just here for the show and the good times and I stay as far away from the drama as I possibly can.

As for why more people can't be like that--the image of accepting and nice--I don't know. People get very protective of their stuff, to the point where if you're not treating the stuff the same way they are, you're going to make them upset. MovieBob has done a few episodes on this issue.

Speaking as a brony that doesn't follow the fandom all that closely, I never bought into the whole "love and tolerate" mantra. That skepticism has been more than justified after witnessing the fandom deal with things like Derpygate, Alicorn Twilight and Equestria Girls. The vitriol spewed back and forth during these events only strengthened my resolve to stick to the show itself for the most part. I'd rather enjoy the show on its own merits without having my opinion colored by overly obsessive twat waffles.

Every fandom has its "lunatic fringe," and bronies are no exception.

If being a part of the Transformers fandom has taught me anything, no fandom gets along completely. There will be *****-fests and swearing, violent arguments about absolutely anything.

I'm not seeing it. I've been a Brony for a few years now and for as long as i remember Bronies alwys got into arguments about the most minor shit imaginable. I've never seen that whole Love and Tolerance mantra being used non sarcastically. There's a nice core of "Hey, let's just watch and enjoy a silly kids show together." in there somewhere but that has been completely buried under obnoxious memespouting, fandom drama, petty fights and a disturbingly big number of weird people who jack off to ponies. Don't get me wrong, i like the subculture but it really needs to get its act together.

Frankly, this notion that "X has the best fanbase because a bunch of nice people like it, and therefore X is best" always annoyed me. It really discredits the people that are, in fact, very nice individuals. Perhaps they were inspired by the show, perhaps not, but just because they like the thing you like doesn't automatically make them the crown royalty of fandom that everyone should aspire to be. I've met many bronies that are very good people and hang out with them on a regular basis, but I've also met many bronies that are some of the most vile and sickening types of people. The MLP fandom is not much different from a lot of other fandoms, so elevating it above others comes off as quite jerkish, and it's a reason why many of the haters don't like it.

Kidding. Yeah, it certainly is not for everyone, that is for sure, but I agree that sending death threats was just not okay. I wish more people handled it like you. "I don't like it, so I'm going to just stay away and not worry about it." I think a lot of fandoms would be a better place if this was the norm.
