Right, this is annoying me know. Why cant i buy microsoft points in any amount. I bought 1000 to buy the new cod map pack. left me with 200, then i need to buy another 1000 if i want to get 800 game.

Why, oh why, cant there be a better selecion, better suited to the content on offer. IF they sold them in 800's or 400's, i wouldn't have a problem. Or better yet, you type in the amount, and it converts it. Something like this. Source:http://www.mspconverter.com/

450 MSP
Dollar (USA) 5.62
British Pound (U.K) 3.83
Euro (Europe) 5.23
Dollar (Canadan) 7.20
Dollar (Australian) 7.43
Yen (Japan) 666

This is just starting to annoy me but itll get to the point where i only want to buy content on ps3. WHere it charges only the amount you use.

Because usability and a streamlined interface would violate the Microsoft Code of End-User Enjoyment.

Short answer: 200 points on the account means that they hope most players will continue to buy things so that they don't "lose" them. It's related to the sunk cost fallacy but it works.

The trick is to find exactly what you want to buy before hand that it adds up to an increment you can buy. I've had the problem with the Wii points, and only buy NES games because of the increments I purchased.

I'll say Microsoft cares more about your money than fixing an annoyance.
Exactly. I'm sitting on a fair amount of "useless" Marketplace points at the moment and the only way I'll be able to make use of them is if I buy more points, but then of course I'll still be left with some extra points taht won't go away unless I spend them on something I probably won't want anyway.

I'd much rather just spend real money to buy stuff of the marketplace, but that would at the risk of sounding backward and totally missing the point of Microsoft being able to fleece us for as much as they possibly can.

Basically to make more money because at the end of the day microsoft is just a buisness. having to buy in set blocks will almost aways mean you have some left over when you spend them meaning they make money over pionts you dont spend. Also just say you have almost enough left over you'd be more encouraged to by the next block just to use the pionts you have left over.

Pretty smart buisness move i'd say

This, basically. It makes you pay more than you should really have to, and keeps the money flowing.

It was only a matter of time.
Before they replace cash with a points system? Yeah, thats likely to happen. You can't really phase into that, you know?
No, it was only a matter of time before a Ps3 fanboy arrived on this thread....

I've seen that system, waaayyy better than points.
I think the idea is to blur how much we are really paying, which is bad.

Didn't they phase into that from original Xbox to 360?

Well as long as Microsoft and Nintendo are making money I guess. May be off our backs, but it ensures more new stuff down the road so it's worth the price I suppose.

So what do you do if you don't have access to a credit card? At least the other 2 are available to everyone everywhere. It could be another reason why some developers haven't put thier DLC onto the PSN. Kinda sucks to have the money to buy the game you want but since you lack a piece of plastic you can't.
