Why couldn't Lara get a jacket or coat from her fallen enemies?

I mean, the poor dear was all chilled to the bone. All those enemies had nice, warm coats. She could have taken one.

That's an executive design choice placed into the game's Design Document.

"Criteria 11: The tits must be visible or at least identifiable from any distance."

Lara has never been very smart that way.

It used to drive me nuts that she'd gun down half a dozen guys in full scuba gear and never think to grab an air tank. It's like she wanted to drown...

For a more proper response than everyone else (no offence guys) I imagine it gets caught on shit a lot. It'd probably get her killed even more than anything else does in the entire game.

Because she's a female character in a video game.

Can't have anything concealing her shapely figure.

Because there will most likely be blood on it.

I mean, would you wear something that has blood on it that isn't yours?

Kinda weird really.

Maybe because people would scream sexism at even that. "Women don't need men's clothing to protect them. SEXISM!!!". I've read crazier things concerning the issue.

Then why not wash it in the river? That will clean the blood off.

Hmm... maybe...

Unless it gets stained then it still might be a little creepy.

Then again, she might just wear a bloody jacket/coat to send a message to her enemies not to mess with her.

Give off a crazy vibe and all. :D

Lara is immune against such minor inconveniences as cold, friction or wounds that don't pierce her throat, so she doesn't care.

Not if you strangle the guy. And either way I'd rather have a bloody jacket than freeze all the time and chafe off all my skin. A bit of blood should really be the least of your concerns in a life or death situation.

That's a good point actually. Strangling the guy would take that point away of having blood on it.

Personally, I'd loot the body, but I don't know if Lara would.

Being all proper and whatnot.

Man, these comments are so jaded and feisty.

When you are out doing everything Laura is doing, the adrenaline pumps, your heart races and with every movement you feel warmer. She pretty much didn't need one because she kept herself warm. Plus she never really wore a jacket in her previous incarnations so why start now?

That and the programmers probably didn't want to program her getting a new jacket every time one got ripped.

In Tomb Raider 2, you wear a heavy, warm winter jacket that %100 covers up your tits...

...and then you are still wearing short shorts.

In a more serious note, as sad as it is, we identify with characters largely based on their clothes. Lara is famous for her tan short shorts and sleeveless aqua shirt in games 1-4. More recent games do vary her outfit based on where she is in the world, somewhat, but how many video games are there in which the main character actually has enough different pairs of clothes that they wouldn't absolutely smell like shit from wearing the same outfit through rain, mud, blood, hell, and back? Not many. (Same applies for TV shows and movies.)

Maybe because people would scream sexism at even that. "Women don't need men's clothing to protect them. SEXISM!!!". I've read crazier things concerning the issue.
As much as I'd like to agree with you... I can't.

Uhhhh yeah
It's a jacket, not a hypodermic needle
Why must you ruin my joke?

That's so rude!

Also, I wouldn't wear a bloodied jacket, it's just weird.

Dear, that joke was ruined long before I got here. Leave the humor to the professionals (a.k.a. Me) :p
You're not the police of me!

RIP joke.

You will be missed. :'(

Because developing something like that would take time and money and ultimately there would be no real use for it beyond playing dress-up unless they wanted to spend even more time and money adding in the new mechanics for why she might want to change her clothes.

But that explanation makes too much sense so it must be because the devs are sexists who wanted Lara to be little more than eye-candy for the misogynist horde of privileged white male gamers.
