Almost every american game has one relationship can any one tell me why? I find it irritating. How many times hav we not seen it? Do you like it? In that case, why?

I dunno, Counter Strike didn't...

Well it's just a coincidence I suppose. Or we have a lot of writers that lack creativity.

I could care less, provided the game is fun i wont mind a relationship thrown into the mix.

Probably because most stories in general have at least one romantic aspect to them.

You know I've never actually seen a video game categorized by the country (apart from JRPGs) it was made in so I couldn't tell you. Most games are made in more than one studio contrary to popular belief. If you could give me some examples it would help though, I can't think of any with a relationship in it.

Y'know, 'relationship' can be defined as something more than romantic/sexual.

Do you mean movie cause that seems to be the deal.

Love is stupid to me, but to the average joe, love is the only thing they can't fail at. So they suddenly give it so much importance because it requires to physical input or otherwise effort "true love at first sight' I mean. Its easy, romantic, and if you hate it ur so ghey.

Do they? I'm afraid I haven't really noticed it.

If there is, it is probably to add more depth and humanity (HA!) to a character.

Not really...

There are a lot of games I could name that don't fit this stereotype, including most world war games, batman, Saints Row and GTA. Pretty big titles.

Oh, and if you are referring to non player character relationships, in general, there are a lot of people in relationships out in the adult world, so you're likely to run into at least one, especially if you have the sort of friends videogame characters tend to.

A curious statement, considering gays are supposed to love too, just differently.

As for the topic, well, maybe it's just something to advance the plot. A little arbitruary I suppose but if things aren't moving the love interest getting kidnapped is a quick and efficient way of kicking off the next level.

Oh, geez. More whining. I'm so sick of all the whining about America.

And, as others have pointed out, you're wrong.

But, to answer your question anyway--because, why not--in the cases where any game has relationships, romantic or otherwise--it's to encourage character development. Obviously. It's an attempt to help the player relate to the character. Yeah, sometimes it doesn't work and sometimes it is unnecessary--but that's the incredibly obvious reason behind it.

Because they want their characters to seem human.

And we Americans are so used to getting hated by everyone else that we'd really just like some love. You know. That too.

But I suppose it says something that you're taking it so seriously.

Please tell me which, I love romance-ish things. The only one I can think of is mass effect, and now dragon age: origins.

Well, we just like out games to feature a male protagonist and a female protagonist and as the story goes on, they can find love and happiness in each other. It sells better then just to guys that hate each other

Halo and Call of Duty don't as far as I know. Unless you count Sgt. Johnson but if you heard his audio bits he's not into that kinda thing...

Left 4 Dead doesn't have any romance.....

.... I hope.
"Snake...can love bloom, even on the battlefield zombie infested streets of our hometown?"

Also, Halflife doesn't really have a love relationship unless you count the familial bond between Alyx and her dad (somehow I get the feeling that's not the relationship you meant though).

Halo similarly lacks any sort of love relationship.

I'm sure there are plenty of other games I could name out there as well.
