Practice makes perfect. The single player experience of a game is usually nothing like multiplayer. You'll eventually get good at it.

well, unless you're playing multiplayer with a semi-rpg type progression system, in which case you can suck at high levels and mow down people at lower levels just because. Though when you think about it, that's kind of like practice too.

Practise, learn the maps (this is key), find out what weapons you are more comfortable with, avoid getting to emotionally involved.[footnote]Contrary to popular belief, getting angry does not make revenge killing easier[/footnote]

Depends on what kind of game you're playing, but listening to screeching death metal seems to help me.

Most people playing online multiplayer games are fair to middlin. If you pick a game and stick with it, it won't take you long to get to the point you can hold your own with most of them. And then there are the ones who've absolutely played a game to death, know every powerup, every combo, every map. You're not going to beat those ones. Don't sweat it.

O.T. get a friend, set up a private server for you and him, and start exploring the the map looking for every nooks and crannies and see which areas are best suited for which weapons or (in case of class system) every class

If you are not good at playing by yourself then learn to be a support member for your team. Maybe try to becoe more of an objective player than one who plays for kills. I believe everyone has a role, even if it is bait for your team mate to get a multikill. At least, this is how I like to play FPSs.
theres no online multiplayer thats "noob friendly". you jump right into those assholes who have been playing since the game came out.

You need to put more time into it. From what little information on what game(s) your are playing and whether or not your control scheme (keyboard/mouse/controller) is comfortable or perhaps even whether or not your PC (if thats the platform you play on) is sufficient to play the game - I can only say this much:
The only way you will learn the game, the maps, the weapons and mechanics of the game are to play it. A lot. Experiment and try to analyse why things went wrong and remember for the next similar encounter.
