third party developers continue to make mainstream games and Nintendo still makes the games that made people like them to begin with, So why do so many people hate the Wii, its current success and feel the need to invalidate its status as a gaming platform.

Many supposed "hardcore" gamers see it as a concession in favor of the Oh-so-hated Casual gamers. I mean, heaven forbid gaming should be accessible to a wider audience.

Why do people hate anything? A magical little thing called an 'opinion.' Name the most popular thing in the world, and some people dislike it. I hope this has been enlightening.

Of course, like anything else, there will be specifics to the grudge. Least powerful hardware, slow game release, Nintendo selling out to the casual while leaving their hardcore established fanbase out to dry, ect. But, if you're not so silly to care, you've moved on by now.

If the title had been "is the dislike towards the Wii justified" I'd have been more onboard with what you're doing here.

The thing is a website like this, is consisted largely of what people would like to call themselves as the 'hardcore crowd'. They feel that there are not enough games on the Wii to satisfy their 'hardcore' gaming habits and desires. However, it seems that 2009's lineup is opening up more to include them and opinions may change. At the current situation, though, the hardcore crowd's opinion of the Wii is pretty bleak.

Oh, and also that 'once you go HD, you don't go back' or something to that extent.

I like the wii, it's just that since I bought it every time I consider buying a new game for it, something awsome comes out for another console and I spend the last of my money on that game.

In all seriousness, take out your Nintendo mainstays (i.e Zelda, Metroid, Smash Bros.) What else is there of worth. Lets see...No more Heroes. What else...Um...that's it.

Because there are no games I want to play on it, and the remote is kinda fiddly. Virtual Console is mostly worthless for those of us who still own and play the old systems, especially since some games are really overpriced. On the other hand, Mario RPG for 8 bucks is an insanely good deal.

It just doesn't yet compare to systems like the SNES, PS2 or PS1.

I don't mean to suggest the 360 or PS3 are better systems. I think all the new systems are pretty crud right now... If the 360 can get some decent, reliable hardware going, they MIGHT become the better system.

because fanboys exist, and that far outweighs logic or gaming opinion. If you don't like the library of games then I guess that's fine, but the sheer outright fanboyish venom I have seen is just wrong. Also I think the fact that no one likes that the graphics aren't 'next gen' has been a discerning factor in the dislike of the console.

If you don't believe me go on gametrailers, it is just a breeding ground for them.

There are, quite literally, no good 'real' games for the Wii as a console. It's sad that the damned thing has been out for two years and the game it came with, Wii Sports, is still in it's top ten games. The Wii has literally been riding on gimmicks, and when you strip those away all you have left is a naked and broken Game Cube. The only real redeeming quality of the Wii is the virtual console features, which allows you to pay for 'retro' games you could download for free on your computer.

Even when Nintendo gets a hold of a decent title, like Okami, it manages to screw things up. Okami on the Wii, while in theory sounds good, was poorly executed with ridiculous and confusing controls. Trying to draw a circle, nay, a straight LINE is almost impossible with the Wii'mote. It's almost like having Parkinson's disease. I loved Okami, but hated it on the Wii.

There's plenty of good "real" (in massive sarcasm quotes) games on the Wii. You not liking a game =\= that game is bad kthx.
As for Virtual Console, not everybody likes piracy.

I like the Wii. Granted, sometimes I think about all the games I could be playing on the Xbox or Playstation, but whatever. I made my choice and there are some good games. Here's an idea: If you don't like the Wii, don't buy one. If you didn't, what's the problem exactly?

I don't hate the Wii, but that doesn't stop it collecting dust because there's nothing to play on the fucking thing.

Not only is the mainstream titles so easy you could beat in a day but the games are just not that great really. You could compare Mario 64 to Mario Galaxy and I preferred Melee to Brawl, it's not opinion it is the fact that they change the gameplay for the worst (especially Mario Kart) or it is so short it shouldn't be worth 90$!

However I love the virtual console!

Exactly. I bought mine the day it was released back in '07 when I worked at Gamestop, and I think I own four, maybe five games for it. My mom pretty much commandeered it for her Wii Fit workout. Other than that, it just collects dust. It's sad, too. I really like Nintendo.

Okay, name ten that don't have Zelda or Mario in the title. Prove me wrong. :)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
No More Heroes
Okami
Metroid Prime 3
LostWinds
Boom Blox
De Blob
WarioWare: Smooth Moves
Zack & Wiki
Lego Indiana Jones

All of these I either have or have played, and love. None of them have Mario or Zelda in the title. I'd also like to point out Metroid Prime 1 & 2 and Pikmin being rereleased for Wii using the Wiimote, the Wii's back-catalogue of Gamecube and Virtual console games, Twilight Princess and Super Mario Galaxy, which are both much fun, the upcoming Kirby game for the Wii, Conduit and Manhunt, about which I'm rather excited, etc etc.

Whether you personally enjoy these games or not is moot. The fact of the matter is that many others do enjoy them. I don't like GTA or Halo, do I have the gall to deny that they're good games just because they don't appeal to me?

1. Boom Blox
2. World of Goo
3. Zac and Wiki
4. Super Smash Brothers Brawl
5. Metroid Prime 3
6. No More Heroes
7. Sports
8. de Blob
9. Lost Winds
10 Wii Fit

No Mario or Zelda in these titles. Now go ahead and stick your fingers in your ears and say, "LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU."
