Controlled fear, anxiety.
You know you can switch off movie whenever you feel it is too much.
You are in control.

That's why.

I don't get scared by horror movies but I still enjoy them. Of course, not so much anymore, there hasn't been a good one in forever. The 80s were the golden age of horror movies in my opinion. I enjoy tension and suspense in films and it is something that is a lost art. Now everything is fast and explosions!
I don't think there has been a decent one since the late 90s though.

And that's it right there.

Fear becomes fun when you're in control of it, when you know it isn't real and you can stop it any time. I'm sure there's bunch of psychological implications to this, but I am not familiar with them.

And I'm talking about horror, not splatter movies and movies like Drag Me To Hell are fun because of over-the-topness, as they're not supposed to be scary per se.

For the same reason people like roller coasters and other such rides: they want to experience fear without actually being in danger. This does not particularly appeal to me personally, but I can understand it.

Catharsis maybe. Peer pressure can also have a lot to do with it. It's also enjoyable to feel the rush of adrenaline you get from a good horror film

I love watching them with my friends. Always nice to share a scare with your mates! But over all, I only like science fictional horror-films.

Games on the other hand? I love me a scary game, no matter how scary.

Because they used to be good.
Not like the shock-action movies that pass for horror these days.

Sometimes people just like all that dark, death filled, gross out, shocking, violent, twisted stuff. I do, for one.
Plus if you love dark comedy, there's usually plenty to be found in horror movies, intentional or otherwise.

That pulse pounding, sweating anxiety is exciting, and when not coupled with actual danger, is much more enjoyable.

Same reason I like roller coasters. It's a hell of an adrenaline rush. And horror movies (and games) are even safer than roller coasters, themselves already quite safe.

Plus, black comedy is always fun. And the movies that mix the two are great. Such as Nick of the Living. Well, something like that.

What do you mean? There's no such thing as a scary horror film!!

It's because, well, I really don't know. Only horror film I enjoyed was "The Shining". Any other films people call "Horror" that I enjoy, I label Thrillers, or Mysteries, or Dramas.

I love horror movies. I enjoy J-Horror and Slasher films (only the good ones though). J-Horror because it's actually scary and Slashers because they're fun to watch.

i asked a people at my school and many others and this is what that had told me

NOTE: This is not what i think and is just what i have been told. None of this reflects on my thoughts or opinions.

'Its funny to watch them die'
'Sexual Pleasing'
'Lol Pain'
'i love watching black people die'
'I love getting Scared'
'I like the sight of Blood'
'I don't know'

Well thats what i gather i don't watch Horror movies due to the fact 'Why would i wanna pay money to scare myself'?
