I can't for the life of me figure it out!

I posted a review of the game on Gamestop at http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/rpg/fallout3/player_review.html?id=641276&tag=contributions;review6

Can anyone who enjoyed the game provide a legitimate reason for it getting the plethora of awards that it has received? Because to ME it just seems like developers thinking the game is good on paper, when in reality it's a poor quality game for gamers.

It's seems like you've made your decision already. Are you suprised you don't like every game that's released?

I like some games that are released, i'm not a cynic by any means, far from it. and I have made my decision but the entire scenario still confuses me. that's why i wanted to know what people enjoyed in the game.

Hey, I don't think Fallout was even in the top 3 games of last year, but I'll gladly admit that it is good and say this:

Fallout 3 is a 1/10 compared compared to Oblivion, and a 10/10 compared to everything else.

I really enjoyed exploring the very well flushed out Capital Wasteland. The game did have its faults, but there was always something to do and just bounding around was a ton of fun. I thought the action was always fast paced, and the game world really well designed. It also looked beautiful. I got a solid 30 hours of enjoyment for my $60. I am happy.

I completely despise the Wii, but I understand how and why people like it. Just because a game doesn't fit your tastes doesn't mean it is undeserving of praise.

As stated above, it's because so many other games are awful. The good thigns we get seem like gifts from a higher power.

i would agree with you. I wanted to enjoy it but it was like pulling teeth for me. The combat got extremely boring and the plot did not interest me at all. Yes i know pure water is important but i want to set my sights a little higher? I hated having to go into you pip boy and scroll though miles of crap to find a different weapon or heal and VAT's got old.
The voice acting was great, and some parts really did shine, like that virtual reality vault.
And exploration was fun for a while but after a while that grates on you too.
The quest somtimes get drawn out to ridiculas lengths as well.

true, in the Wii's case i can tell that it appeals to certain peoples taste, and with other games i don't particularly like i can still tell that the game is quality, it just seems that fallout 3 was a terrible terrible game and has succeeded only as a result of hype. idunno...

this is the kinda stuff that keeps me up at night...

1. Awesome setting- post-apocalypse
2. It's easy- you don't have to be good at FPS's or RPG's to own in Fallout 3
3. Immersion- good until crashed by bugs (which does happen alot)

I personally loved it, and easily put in a good 120+ hours. My only qualms were the repetitiveness, shitty DLC, and occasional crippling bugs.

Also, it was made by the guys who made Oblivion, therefore has an automatic, bleating lamb-base (get it, fanbase?). Add in the people who played the old Fallouts, and you have an outrageously successful release, regardless of quality.

ya that pretty much says a lot for me too. also the fact that they emphasized a customizable face in a FIRST PERSON shooter is like turning in a paper without proofreading it.

Its a good game, but I am not going to sit here explaining why so you can just respond with a plug for your review. Great graphics and a top notch RPG.

I never get my hopes up for a game, and always end up enjoying them for what they are. But I made the mistake with Fallout 3 of getting my hopes up. It was good, but not the godsend I was expecting.

Fallout 3 was more of an RPG that looked like an FPS. From your review you seemed to be expecting an FPS with RPG elements (like bioshock). I'll agree that after a while the game becomes dull, but it still lasts longer than say most games.

It had a lot of content and you weren't railroaded into anything (other than the central plotline, but you didn't have to do that one). The weapons were fun and the VATS looked cool. My only complaint is that the combat could've been a bit more advanced and flexible. That's just a way to make it better, though, and not really something that made it bad in the first place. It's a good game, if you like that sort of thing. If you don't like that sort of thing, then you won't like Fallout 3 either. No game can cater to every taste. Simple as that.

I enjoy Fallout 3 because it has a nice mix of humor, first-person RPG elements and the feel of a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The game does have a clunky flaw with jumping being fairly useless pretty much all the time but at the same time its accessable to both FPS/RPG fans (not a big crossover) and RPG fans due to its VATS, which granted is seemingly magical but due to the fact that it needs to recharge and its useless at long range doesn't break the gameplay. The game is also very sandbox, damn near every location in the game requiring you to explore while you do constantly have a set storyline to follow so its not like you'll ever lose your sense of direction.

Probably the most annoying thing is even with some areas that have quirky unique enemies the variety in them is a bit low, plus they make you take the subway way too much at times. It does have flaws but it has wonderful immersion and a lot of content as well as a strong about variety in play, karma making each play a bit different.
